We are currently seeking a
Major Capital Project Procurement Lead to join our
Glencore
Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations in Greater Sudbury, Ontario.


The position will be based in Greater Sudbury, Ontario.

This is a contract position, full-time, up to 2026, with the possibility of extension.


Duties and Accountabilities:


The Major Capital Project Procurement Lead is accountable for the overall management of the procurement function for all Major Capital Projects (MCP) which includes Onaping Depth Project, Smelter Furnace rebuild, Nickel Rim South Extension and other qualifying projects.

This position is also accountable for ensuring corporate policies, procedures and standards are met in executing project duties by both Internal employees as well as external stakeholders working on projects as part of the integrated model, which includes Engineering Procurement, Construction Management (EPCM) staff.

This position is responsible for all purchasing (on or off contract), expediting, inspections, duties, and transportation as required.


The Individual will direct and manage the MCP procurement team in dealing with various procurement related activities - including but not limited to: developing and maintaining procurement and sourcing strategies, develop and maintain procurement policies and procedures; oversee the tendering processes; manage contract negotiations; expediting; logistics; and navigating supplier issues or supply disruptions.

The role will also play a role in providing input to projects on inventory planning as project transitions to operations.


The individual will liaise, communicate, and interact not only with Project resources but also with all Sudbury INO sites and departments, as well as other Glencore sites including Glencore Group procurement and the Nickel Executive Management team.

There will also be a significant amount of engagement with multiple external stakeholders such as suppliers, lawyers, regulatory bodies and auditors.


Reporting to this position is the MCP Procurement Support as well as the various EPCM contractors employed as part of the study or execution team.

The incumbent oversees approximately $250 million in annual expansionary capital spend, over and above MCP operating expenditure that varies from project to project.

Education and Skills


This position requires a university degree with a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in procurement, development and administration of contracts, coupled with related relevant experience in materials handling, supervision, administration and contract management.

A professional designation in purchasing, logistics, or supply chain management (SCM) and experience in managing direct report in a purchasing environment is also required.

Strong leadership skills, business and customer service orientation is essential. Excellent communication and organizational skills are required to work effectively with several customers concurrently.

Proven negotiation and influencing skills as well as the ability to identify, recommend and implement cost effective efficiencies to improve overall operational performance.


Knowledge of Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations working systems, SAP, COUPA and electronic tendering systems, along with technical references/experience in any civil, mechanical, electrical, construction or mining disciplines would also be considered an asset.
