    Description

    Your Opportunity:

    Within the Halvar Jonson Centre for Brain Injury, reporting to the Unit Manager, you will provide a broad range of services in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure. As an Occupational Therapist I, you will be working both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team, responsible for enabling occupation through activities of assessment, treatment planning, intervention, consultation, education and follow-up, based on the patient's individualized goals, with outcomes focused on enabling the patient (client, resident) to perform meaningful daily occupations. You will provide clinical direction to therapy assistants, support personnel and students. You will review clinical referrals, accept, screen and assess client needs from an occupational therapy perspective in collaboration with other health disciplines. You will work in partnership with community agencies and providers as appropriate, to facilitate referrals and services to support care transitions in hospital and community settings. You will establish and maintain effective communication with colleagues, medical staff, and healthcare practitioners concerning documentation, treatment plans, progress and discharge. You will participate in client, family and caregiver education in collaboration with other disciplines, producing and maintaining clinical data, information, documentation and verbal reports to support the delivery of occupational therapy services, including charting.

    Description:

    As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client¿s physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

    Required Qualifications:

    Completion of bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program.Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

    Additional Required Qualifications:

    CPR Required – BLS for Health Care Providers Level C. You are physically capable of caring out the duties of this position. This physically demanding position requires the OT to physically assist patients in a variety of functional tasks. Complex moderate to severe brain injured patients may be very dependent for care at times. You are expected to manager behaviorally challenged patients. You will have excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Greater than 6 months experience in working in neurology, with stroke and brain injured patients. Three years' clinical experience in rehabilitation services using a client centered approach is preferred.
