Community Centre programs bring diverse communities together to improve community life and reduce poverty, isolation and food insecurity.

The Project Coordinator will work closely with Wilfrid Laurier University partners and the program supervisor/manager to provide leadership for the community neighbourhood-based programs.

The role will support the daily operations of the program and the team of staff and volunteers. This role utilizes a passion for working with people and teams.


This is a part-time, contract position until March 31, 2024.

Schedule is approximately up to 10 hours/week.

Valid G class driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle required.

Satisfactory Police Records Check for services with the Vulnerable Sector required.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Meet with Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU) coordinator regularly to plan and coordinate programming
  • Report to Community Centers Supervisor regularly as well as joint checkins with the Community Development Manager and the HOF-CHC team.
  • Work with the HOF-CHC team to determine the appropriate neighbourhoods to run specific services
  • Work with community partners alongside WLU to create and secure appropriate scheduling and programming space
  • Work with House of Friendship Development team and/or WLU to create material for outreach and marketing, registration forms etc.
  • Cocreate, with supervisor, team schedules for staff, substitutes, and volunteers
  • Coordinate logistics alongside WLU for tournaments, scrimmages and practices
  • Program coordination and support, checking on sites ensuring staff, volunteers and children are clear on expectations on day of program and ensuring staff and participant safety
  • Help guide WLU staff/volunteers on the specific barriers, needs, and understandings of the communities we work within, and train as required
  • Coordinate referrals from Community Services staff to the Centre for Healthy Community programs
  • In collaboration with Community Centre supervisor, ensure regular checkins with staff and, coordinate a streamlined outreach and registration intake process for each program and site
  • Ensure supervision is available on site until parental pickup
  • Connect with parents regularly to remind them of tournaments, scrimmages and practices and regarding any child behaviours, incidents, or checkins required with parents
  • Coordinate data collection and retention in collaboration with the community Centres Supervisor.
  • Keep organized records of participant information, emergency contact information etc, document attendance, and complete other admin associated with the program
  • Create informal and formal reports on programming outcomes which meet the reporting needs of CHC/WLU and HOF
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures of all partnering organizations

Education/Experience:


  • University degree or college diploma in related field of study and relevant work experience required
  • Knowledge of, and experience serving in the area of community development, with a passion for supporting and serving those experiencing low income, and in reducing the impact of poverty on community members
  • Previous experience working with children, youth and adults in a community development or social service role
  • Experience in program planning, implementation, facilitation and evaluation

Job Specific Knowledge/Skills:


  • Strong organizational and computer skills with ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Highly organized, with ability to develop, implement and streamline administrative processes
  • Strong program coordination skills, team work skills, and decisionmaking skills.
  • Previous experience coordinating and supporting team members including staff, students, and volunteers.
  • Experience supporting team members to address conflict in programs.
  • Demonstrated skill in building and maintaining productive relationships (staff, community partners, funders)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to create and implement processes
  • Experience completing expense forms and reports is an asset
