Our Team:

Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years.

With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world.

Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.


Port Colborne is home to our Nickel Refinery where raw materials from our Sudbury operations are processed into electrocobalt and precious metals and serves as a distribution center for finished nickel products.


The Opportunity


The incumbent will be responsible for the effective management of the various contractors for the execution of project construction, implementation of, and adherence to, best practices for construction management in order to achieve the most efficient performance from the various site-based contractors, provide leadership to ensure effective Safety and Environmental procedures are being followed for all construction work.

Additional in this position, you will;

  • Lead the execution of all construction activities for the Projects.
  • Participate in, and contribute to, the detailed development, and subsequent updates, of the execution plan for the surface construction on site.
  • Participate in, and contribute, to the development, and subsequent updates, of the underground mine construction schedule to help enable successful execution of all construction for the total site.
  • Support detailed constructability reviews of engineering drawings and specifications during the design phase.
  • Assist in the technical activities as part of the procurement process for contractor selection.
  • Participate in the development of logistics plans with the supply chain department.
  • Report to the project management team on all matters relating to construction.
  • Provide guidance, direction and assistance to the construction contractors throughout all phases of the project.
  • Detailed monitoring, coordinating, and auditing of contractor's productivity, progress and overall performance for the construction area through the maintenance of high visibility in the field.
  • Work collaboratively with the SHE team to ensure full contractor compliance with established safety procedures and standards.
  • Assist with safety audits and investigations.
  • Lead the implementation of Vale Production System (VPS) on the construction area, driving a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.

About You

Education:


  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Piping, Civil/Structural; some background with high voltage electrical systems.

Desirable Certification:

  • PMP Certification is desired.

Experience:


Skills:


  • Previous management of multiple construction contractors simultaneously as part of the Project Management Team.
  • Good understanding of budget tracking and working within department budgets.
  • Development, coaching and training coordination of all direct reports to help team succeed.
  • Proven success in large scale industrial projects; experience in field leadership roles considered a strong advantage.
  • Proven field experience of cold weather civil and surface construction activities especially at remote sites
  • Demonstration of knowledge with respect to environmental requirement at site
