Position Overview
Responsible for the directing in planning, organization, and implementation of innovative programs based on established standards, policies and procedures, which will advance or maintain the lifestyle of residents and improve the overall delivery of health care.
The position of Director of Programs & Rehabilitation requires that considerable attention be given to the Vice President of Operations as well as Homes Administrators and Program Managers needs with time given to responding to their questions and concerns.
Director of Programs & Rehabilitation is wholly or in part responsible for services which include: Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation/Restorative Care, Recreation, Volunteers, Purchase Services, Pastoral Care, Community Relations, Palliative Care, and Social Work & Social Service Workers.
Qualifications
- A community college recreation diploma or university degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university and at least one (5) years' experience in a health care setting.
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills, creativity and high motivation are a must.
- Knowledge of community resources and program development is an asset.
- CPR and First Aid qualifications
- To show evidence of being focused on people's feelings when interacting and knowing how to turn a task into positive social interaction.
- To undertake and meet all legal requirements within a context of promoting individuals' rights and measuring/reducing elements of risk.
- Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one
- Two supervisory references required
- COVID19 vaccination is a condition of employment
PLEASE NOTE:
This position can also be the designated lead for the restorative care program including the services of Social Work and Social Services Worker provided he/she meets the qualifications.
Essential Duties
Essential Duties are the technical skills and knowledge that an employee requires in order to perform their role. Below is detailed information on required Essential Duties for your position.
- Recruitment/retention of Program Managers
- Orientation and ongoing training and development of Programs Managers
- Labour Management
- Assisting with the understanding of the collective agreements.
- Demonstrates good knowledge of company policies, and appropriate legislations.
- Adheres to the collective agreement when developing and implementing human resources policies
- Has a good understanding of staffing patterns, and scheduling activities
- Monitors performance reviews to make sure all new Program Managers have a performance review prior to the completion of the probationary period
- Provides leadership in programs for residents with special needs
- Develops and evaluates QM activities
- Develops, reviews, and evaluates policies and procedures in collaboration with the Programs Managers on Policy Medical.
- Promotes community involvement
- Ensures new programs/special events and outing venues are implemented
- Ensures Program Managers are educated on the legislative requirements and other relevant topics through inservices.
- Provides leadership and supervision to activation staff through the monitoring of performance and recognizes excellent performance
- Monitors the documentation systems and processes for quality and adherence of standards, activity pro.
- Ensures the Programs department is operated in compliance with the regulations within the Long Term Care Act and responds to any citation identified by the Ministry of Health
- Ensures the department maintains standards consistent with Accreditation Canada
- Assists with the development of the departmental annual operating budget
- Ensures appropriate staffing patterns, effective utilization of staff and materials management
- Assists in the coordination of the Quality Improvement program and follows the Residents First Initiatives with HQO.
- Reviews trends quality improvement activities and takes the lead in changing practices, introducing new policies, programs, and services based on the identified trends and analysis
