This temporary position is not to exceed September 2024.

If the position is going to end prior to September 2024 or exceed September 2024 two weeks' notice will be provided.

***The Infection Control and Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for providing infection control and occupational health and safety guidance and leadership to management and staff in order to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, volunteers and visitors. This position reports to the Director, Clinical and Ambulatory Care Services for Infection Control and to the Director, Human Resources for occupational health and safety. The Director Clinical and Ambulatory Care Services may also advise on matters pertaining to Occupational Health and Safety.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS & PREREQUISITES:


  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario or eligibility
  • Occupational Health Certificate from an accredited college or university, or in progress
  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse COHN(c) or willingness to obtain
  • Completion of/or commitment to complete an entry Level 1 Infection Control course endorsed by IPAC Canada
  • Certification (or eligible for certification) or commitment to complete certification from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC) within 3 years of beginning employment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Health Canada, Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC), CSA standards and Best Practice Guidelines
  • Recent experience as an Occupational Health Nurse and/or Infection Control Practitioner or related experience
  • Ability to work empathically and professionally with employees to develop personal goals for improved health
  • Experience working in a Human Resources Information System is preferred
  • Ability to maintain confidentially, discretion and tact
  • Working knowledge of OMA/OHA surveillance and exposure management systems
  • Must communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to effectively participate in difficult conversations and to handle difficult and stressful situations that produce proactive and positive outcomes
  • Must be able to work with Microsoft Windows (Word, Excel and Outlook) to be tested
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, sound judgment, analytical thinking and initiative; able to set and adjust priorities
  • Demonstrates effective leadership skills
  • Membership through SBGHC in local and national IPAC Canada


  • Attend IPAC

  • HUPIC, IPAC SWO and RICN meetings
  • Commitment to continuous learning and the development of an annual learning plan
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Must be able to travel to other sites and maintain a flexible work schedule.
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record
  • Knowledge of and adherence to SBGHC Core Values (Teamwork, Empathy, Accountability, Mutual Respect, Safety)
  • Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at SBGHC through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes
