QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Certificate of Qualifications at the Junior Cook Level
  • At minimum, one cook (working 35 hours/week) must have a Chef Training or Culinary Management Diploma
  • Food Safety Certificate
  • Previous cooking experience in an institutional setting, preferably longterm care
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safe food handling practices

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare meals for residents following the regular and therapeutic menu, standardized recipes, and production scheduling and therapeutic and texturemodified diet guidelines
  • Supporting resident preferences and choices
  • Ensuring all meals are served attractively and garnished appropriately
  • Ensuring meals are served on time, at appropriate temperatures and in portioncontrolled quantities
  • Implementing menu changes in the absence of the Food Service Supervisor
  • Following departmental policies and procedures
  • Following safe food handling practices and sanitation regulations
  • Assuming responsibility for routine department operations in the absence of the Food Service Supervisorplacing orders, receiving food, supplies
  • Directing dietary aides in basic food preparation and meal service procedures
  • Preparing food for cooking: cleaning and processing all raw ingredients
  • Serving meals to residents following the posted dietary guidelines and resident preferences

Part-time hours: 0-35 per week

Experience:


  • Cooking: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:
