The NexSource Recreation Centre is a 155,000+ square foot multi-use recreation centre located in the
lakeside Town of Sylvan Lake. Our facility offers many amenities such as a swimming pool, two regulation
ice rinks, a five sheet curling rink, a running track and fitness area, concession, full service viewing lounge,
childrens play space, childminding services, seniors centre and rental spaces. The NexSource Centre is
also host to tourist services, cultural and special events. With abundant year round activities, we have

**SPECIAL EVENT LEADER

- Casual Hours with Flexibility required to work days/evenings/weekends**:


  • Starting Wage $19.64
The Special Event Leader assists with event planning and implementation for Town of Sylvan Lake Special
Events. This position demonstrates strong customer service with an emphasis in high energy, enthusiasm
and creativity.***
ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • 1. Provides assistance with the set up and delivery of community events including but not limited to Setting up the event space and tearing down event assets on event day
  • Collecting, selling, and managing event tickets and entrance qualifications on event day
  • Serve food and beverage at select events
  • Assist with crowd control and public relations inquiries on event day (ie. Providing updates
to the public about delayed fireworks, communicating event changes, providing directions
to event activities, etc.)

  • 2. Provide assistance with the preparation of event logistics which includes but not limited to Loading the Special Events vehicle with Special Event supplies
  • Transporting supplies in the Special Events vehicle to and from site
  • Delivery of event resources to identified businesses and residences
  • Event supply shopping and inventory control
  • Assistance with event day communications including taking photos of the event, posting to social
media accounts, and providing relevant updates to social media channels

  • 4. Enthusiastically activate the event space activities as required.

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Providing support with games, crafts, and event activities by inviting participants to join in
all event activities

  • Manages resources effectively by
  • Anticipating and identifying challenges and issues pertaining to all relevant equipment and
report back to the event supervisor

  • Performs regular checks and inventories of event equipment
  • Promotes, supports and enforces Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements.
  • Understands and adheres to all employer responsibilities as outlined in The Town's Human
Resources and Health and Safety Policies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Minimum 16 years of age (or 18 for events that require ProServe)
  • One (1) year of relevant experience
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Completion of a Standard First Aid and C.P.R. Level C.
  • ProServe (for events that require liquor service)
  • RCMP Based Criminal Record Check
  • Demonstrates initiative, team spirit and respect
  • Good observation skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to produce high quality work quickly under pressure
  • Exceptional interpersonal and problem solving skills in dealing with staff, peers, and the public

- under varied circumstances
  • Lifting event supplies and equipment (up to 50 lbs)
  • Flexible hours (evenings and weekends) in different venues throughout Sylvan Lake
