Job description
Reporting to the Manager of Economic Development Services, the Tourism Development Officer has responsibility for developing, coordinating and managing the destination marketing plan for the Ottawa Valley Tourist Association (OVTA). This is a contract opportunity for approximately 18 months, offering full-time hours Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Manager of Economic Development Services, develop and implement a comprehensive annual destination marketing plan, including product development, advertising campaigns and marketing materials, and media and public relations and corresponding budget.
- Under the direction of the Manager of Economic Development Services, coordinate the development, design and production of all advertising and marketing materials.
- Under the direction of the Manager of Economic Development Services, responsible for identifying and applying to funding partnership opportunities that align with marketing strategy, and supporting funding applications that include tourism components, as appropriate.
- Reports on activities directly to the Board of Directors. Through the Manager of Economic Development Services, reports on activities to the Development and Property Committee and County Council.
- Protects own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, and attending all relevant in-services regarding occupational health and safety. Follows all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Performs the responsibilities of the position within the legislative and regulatory standards set out in the applicable Provincial and Municipal Acts. Performs the responsibilities of the position consistent with the Operational policies of the County of Renfrew.
Qualifications
- Equivalent to community college (1, 2, 3-year program) education and a minimum of 3-4 years experience in Travel & Tourism.
- Understanding of the local, regional, provincial, national and international tourism landscape.
- Experience developing and executing destination marketing plans and budgeting.
- Experience and understanding of the production of marketing materials.
- Advanced personal and leadership skills.
- Strong interpersonal, writing, organization, supervisory and communication skills.
- Strong initiative and follow-through skills.
- Computer literacy is required, particularly word processing, spreadsheet and digital media platforms, in a Windows environment.
- Valid drivers' licence and immediate accessible transportation.
