OVERVIEW:


The _Wolastoqey Tribal Council Inc_ (WTCI) is a not-for-profit organization whose role is to provide capacity building opportunities for its five member communities within New Brunswick (Matawaskiye, Wotstak, Bilijk, Sitansisk and Welamukotuk), in the areas of: Health, Education, Training and Employment, Governance and Emergency Management).


WTCI's recently formed Education Branch (WEB) has been working towards an integrated service delivery model, Wassisok Tomk (Kids Come First).


The efforts of WEB are:

  • To create a holistic Wolastoqey service delivery framework that has culture, language, community, and traumainformed practice as its foundation.
  • Build meaningful relationships of trust as a foundation for wellness.
  • Develop a community model with communitybased teams.
  • Provide outreach and support for children, youth, and families where they are (in their homes, in early childhood health, wellness and learning programs, at each community school, and in school district schools, etc.).
  • Create a collaborative web within the Wolastoqey communities/services and with external partners.


WTCI Education is committed to building capacity within communities and education, while cultivating a trauma-informed workspace that is engaging and allows team members the opportunity to grow within the company.

WTCI Education Branch is currently seeking to fill a Transition Coordinator position.

In this role, you'll be supporting our five Wolastoqey Communities in creating culturally relevant and academically supportive environments where our students can realize their full potential, and work collaboratively with the WEB team to support identifying transition gaps, goals, resources, and best practices for successful transitioning of each of our students between elementary, middle, and high schools.

The Transition Coordinator will be expected to take initiative and be a self-starter with good communication and listening skills.

The Transition Coordinator will work under the supervision of the ISD Coordinator/Supervisor, who is responsible for overseeing the clinical services, resources, and supports required to meet the needs of the children, youth and caregivers being served.


WHAT YOU'LL DO:


As a WTCI Education Transition Coordinator, you will:

  • Maintain discretion and confidentiality.
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams (i.e., WEB, schools, homes, and community settings).
  • Promote awareness and appreciation of Wolastoqey culture in all endeavors.
  • Be a positive role model and act as a Wolastoqey student advocate.
  • Plan and implement activities to facilitate transitions for our students between elementary, middle, and high schools.
  • Facilitate positive communication and relationships between school personnel, Wolastoqey students and their parents/guardians.
  • Encourage and support parental evolvement.
  • Consult with school personnel and parents on student progress and attendance.
  • Communicate with school personnel regarding issues that may be affecting student progress.
  • Maintain a network of internal and external support, resources, and contacts to assist student progress.
  • Develop and implement Wolastoqey Professional Learning (PL) for educators and caregivers to support and promote cultural competencies.
  • Manage caseload, data collection, complete reports, and followup on accountability structures.
  • Be an active listener, offer support and encouragement when appropriate and seek feedback.
  • Other related duties that will be assigned
  • Willingness to learn new skills and participate in professional learning.

KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Bachelor of Arts, Social Sciences, or Education and one year of coordinationrelated work experience for a total of 5 years; or minimum postSecondary Diploma/Certificate in related disciplines of Social Sciences, Education, or Human Services and 3 years of coordinationrelated work experience for a total combination of 5 years; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in requisite skills.
  • Experience in First Nation community engagement and a proven ability to take initiative.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in school transition initiatives, experience is an asset.
  • A strong understanding in Wolastoqey culture, language, and traditions.
  • Experience in a coordination role as well as collaboratively working on a team.
  • Demonstrate experience and sensitivity in working with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks as outlined & seek feedback.
  • Dedication to continued improvement, growth, and skill development.
  • Value quality above all, and willingness to devote the appropriate care and attention to every step of the process.
