Job Overview:


The Manager of Environment is responsible for ensuring that the company complies with all environmental regulations and policies, while minimizing the impact of mining projects and operations on the environment.

This role requires a person who possesses excellent leadership skills, a strong understanding of environmental science, and the ability to liaise with a variety stakeholders and employees.


Purpose of Role:


Provide leadership and specialized technical expertise including, but not limited to hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, biology, biodiversity, soil science, mine closure, and environmental performance/compliance.

Leads the design and implementation of corporate environmental projects and manages environmental functions and resources to assist mine management in achieving production targets within budget, without compromising environmental stewardship and license to operate.

Provide timely advice and recommendations on global trends and emerging technologies that can create efficiencies or a key competitive advantage.

Encompasses all sites and will require travel (on average, about one workweek per month).


The position is based in Toronto, Ontario, and reports to the Senior Director, Environment & Permitting and interacts closely with other functional areas such as Health & Safety, Audit, ESG, Community Relations, Tailings, Finances, Regulatory Affairs, and Reclamation.


Responsibilities:


Governance

  • Promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Review and maintain updated all aspects of Kinross' EMS.
  • Advise management on environmental objectives, targets, and metrics and helps assess environmental performance.
  • Oversees environmental aspects of Kinross' overall Corporate ESG strategy, including reporting, data collection and validation.
  • Undertake regular site inspections, reviews, and audits.
  • Prepare communication materials, manuals, and other written materials related to environmental management, including specialist reports.

Permitting & Compliance

  • Provide expertise and assistance in the acquisition of environmental licenses, permits and approvals required for projects and operations.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory environmental requirements, permits, licenses, approvals, and commitments.
  • Identify and monitor regulatory changes that may affect projects and operations.

Risk Management

  • Identify and manage environmental risks.
  • Identify, prevent, and prepare responses to potential environmental emergencies at the company's projects and operations and support Kinross' crisis management program.
  • Collaborate with Safety and Sustainability Audit function and provide riskbased audit scope for the Environmental portion of the S&S audit. Participate on the field audit and be responsible for ensuring sites complete their respective action plans timely and effectively.

Environmental Stewardship

  • Leads technical environmental projects including identification of needs, scope definition, resourcing, contractor management, quality control and reporting.
  • Mobilize the expertise of the environmental teams, and where necessary external expert resources, to help projects and operations address environmental issues and challenges and improve efficiencies and performance.
  • Identify emerging challenges and develop, communicate, and implement timely plans to avoid or mitigate potential negative outcomes.
  • Respond to internal and/or external requests, many of which will not be standard and will require advanced problemsolving approaches.
