The Financial Reporting Compliance Advisor position is a key member of the Financial Reporting team focusing on providing strong accounting and data analytical skills to the Financial and Strategic Services department.

Working to support the Senior Financial Reporting Compliance Advisor, this position requires a proficient use of data analytics and strong understanding of chart of accounts in a complex organization.


Responsibilities:


  • Administering the chart of accounts for the County which includes a large variety of business units and account categories
  • Ensuring the completeness and accuracy of interfaces into the Oracle general ledger and supporting the reconciliation of account balances in the general ledger to accounts in interfaced modules
  • Performing month end close and year end close procedures by running Oracle programs
  • Using data analytics software to summarize large volumes of data, identify exceptions, or prepare analysis to respond to specific queries
  • Preparing working papers, journal entries and accounting analysis
  • Filing tax information and annual slip preparation for nonresident withholding tax
  • Conducting compliance reviews as required

Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of Oracle Cloud or other accounting systems used to process large volumes of data and run programs to interface data and perform close procedures
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting processes required to support the accounting requirements of the Financial Reporting branch
  • Proficiency in the use of data analytical software (i.e., business intelligence) and Excel, along with proficiency in Word, Power Point and SharePoint
  • Effective organizational, time management, and multitasking skills to prioritize and complete work within restricted timelines while ensuring attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to interpret and communicate procedures and present data analytic results effectively to others
  • Excellent project management skills to prioritize several concurrent tasks, meeting critical reporting deadlines
  • Ability to prepare quality working papers to support external audit, compliance reviews, analysis and conclusions

Qualifications

  • An Accounting degree and a minimum of 3 years experience in accounting or a related area, or an Accounting diploma and a minimum of 5 years experience in accounting or a related area
  • Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation in progress or obtained is an asset
  • Experience in government, particularly a municipality is an asset
