    The YMCA of Northern Alberta is looking for Day Camp Coordinators to provide leadership to a team of counsellors to create a safe, positive, and fun environment for our campers, fellow staff, and volunteers. As a Day Camp Coordinator, you will lead a team to provide a memorable summer for our campers and your peers.

    As the coordinator, you will benefit from a two-day leadership training session, followed by a comprehensive one-week training program with the counsellors prior to camp start. You will learn and coach others on best practices in behavior management, program design, team communication and collaboration. You will gain confidence in your decision making abilities and receive coaching and support from multiple leaders within the YMCA to ensure that campers and their parents have a positive customer experience.     Essential Functions

  • Create schedule for staff and volunteers and ensuring that they are recording time in and out in electronic database
  • Assist in recruiting, training, coaching, and supervising day camp staff and volunteers
  • Prepare day camp rosters and assist with delivery of day camp brochures
  • Communicate schedule and arrange for travel for day camp staff and campers for off-site field trip and booking of guests
  • Evaluate day camp counsellor's performances by providing consistent feedback and ensuring YMCA's standards are always followed by staff and volunteers, and promptly address any situation in which they are not.
  • Leading program planning sessions and evaluating day camp programming for all Summer Day Camps for ages 3-17
  • Lead campers in daily activity and physical literacy skill development
  • Facilitate games that introduce and educate campers on selected sports. Integrate diversity in learning various sports outside North America
  • Assist campers in learning about physical literacy and developing agility, and sports skills
  • What You'll Need

  • High-school Diploma or in pursuit of post-secondary education in a field connected to children and youth is an asset. (Recreation, Child Studies, Education, Physical Education, etc.)
  • Preference for 2 years' experience working in a camp or similar setting
  • Supervisory experience is preferred
  • Experience working with children and youth
  • Customer service experience is an asset – ability to communicate with parents, families, and volunteers
  • Must have Standard First Aid & CPR-C prior to hire (the Y will provide support in registration)
  • Important: As this role is responsible for the care of children, we require a Police Information Check to be provided in advance of your first day of work. Instructions will be provided at the time of offer. If under 18, you will sign a declaration. If over 18, you will need to provide a Police Information Check with results satisfactory to the YMCA of Northern Alberta.
