Purpose
This Manager, Accounting - Financial Reporting supports the day-to-day core accounting and financial reporting requirements for all of Rocky Mountaineer's global entities.
This position will supervise accountants and senior accountants and will be responsible for timely completion and review of their work.
Key Areas of Accountability
Financial Statement Preparation and Analysis
- Review financial statements for bank compliance, yearend audit and other compliance
- Review consolidations, intercompany entries and monthly balance sheet schedules
- Review monthly reconciliations and completeness of working papers to support the financial statements
- Prepare financial statements and note disclosures for areas assigned for statutory, entity level and consolidated statements
- Preparing explanations of financial results including variance analysis to budget and forecast, impacts of accounting policies including the use of estimates and judgment
- Work with business units to obtain required information for financial statement analysis
- Supporting ad hoc analysis
Financial Processes & Procedures
- Play an active role in the monthly close process and assist the wider Finance team with issue resolution
- Review timelines for processes and propose solutions to Controller to create lean and efficient processes
- Maintain and comply with all internal controls and report all deficiencies to the Controller, including resolutions
- Prepare & develop accurate reports for the Controller and wider Finance team
- Supervision of all tax filings
- Support CRA, IRS or other tax authority inquiries and audits
- Administration of all online banking systems
Team Leadership
- Provide feedback to Controller on team performance and identify areas for improvement. Work collectively with Finance Leadership to build high performing team
- Monitor and manage the workload of the team, including the development of metrics to monitor efficiency
- Comply with code of conduct and protect confidential information related to employees, partners and vendors
- Monitor and report on team KPIs as set out by Finance leadership
- Participate in interviewing and onboarding process for new hires
Compliance
- Ensure timely and compliant filings and administration with various regulators (ABTA, IATA, AAA, etc.)
- Review and oversight of financial Policy Adherence
Qualifications
Education/Certifications/Knowledge
- Completion of a bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field required
- CPA designation
- Proficiency with use of Microsoft office programs, along with knowledge of accounting and invoice processing software required
Experience
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in full cycle accounting or audit role(s)
- Prior supervisory experience required
- Experience in writing Standard Operating Procedures
- System controls and adherence to authorization matrix and permission settings
- Prior experience in a multientity company in several international jurisdictions a strong asset
- Prior experience in software testing and implementation a definite asset
Skills
- Understanding of lean operations, source problem identification, process evaluations, and ability to drive solutions
- Strong Microsoft Office skills and advanced Excel skills
- Organized, analytical with strong attention to detail
- Propensity to develop new ideas and create solutions
- Able to lead a team to solutionbased problem solving
- Effective communication skills to build trusting relationships with the team and business units
- Ability to work well under pressure with multiple projects and timelines
