Job Purpose
Amber Peak is seeking a Junior Maintenance Technician to join our Maintenance Department.

This position will work closely with our maintenance team to train and learn a wide variety of maintenance technical skills and troubleshooting abilities.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for growth for an individual who enjoys working with their hands, problem solving and interacting with customers in a friendly and service-oriented manner.


The Junior Maintenance Technician will be responsible for responding to scheduled and on demand maintenance work orders across the portfolio of properties.

The Junior Maintenance Technician will accompany senior members of the maintenance team to more challenging and technical jobs from time to time to train and learn new skills from other members of the team.

Overtime, it is expected that the Junior Maintenance Technician's skill set will grow and develop allowing them to handle more skilled work orders on their own.


The Junior Maintenance Technician must be organized, planful and hardworking to schedule their assigned work orders and effectively complete tasks in the field.


Job Duties and Tasks:


  • Plan and complete the work required to perform maintenance work orders as they are scheduled and assigned by the Property Manager.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of engagement on the work orders that are assigned, communicating clearly with tenants when at the property, writing clear log notes about the work performed and communicating with the Amber Peak team where required.
  • Plan and complete portfolio wide seasonal maintenance plans
  • Organize and keep clean one's tools, truck and possessions in a professional manner.
  • Perform work orders related to:
  • Mowing lawns
  • Weed whacking
  • Bush and shrub cutting
  • Snow shoveling
  • Salting
  • Bathroom & kitchen hardware repairs
  • Mechanical system basic trouble shooting and repair
  • Setting up and operating temporary pump systems
  • Setting up and operating temporary heating systems
  • Setting up and operating temporary dehumidification systems
  • Removal and recaulking of tubs, sinks and showers
  • Changing light bulbs and light fixtures
  • Change locks and reprogram locks at properties
  • Install signage at properties
  • Pest trapping, baiting and prevention
  • And other tasks as required
  • Learn skills to eventually respond to work orders related to:
  • Light drywall patching
  • Painting
  • Plumbing repairs and troubleshooting
  • Electrical repairs and troubleshooting
  • Mechanical system advanced troubleshooting and repair
  • And other tasks as required

  • Execute all work in a safe, professional manner in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Participate in the rotating oncall schedule and be ready to diligently respond to afterhours emergencies in a timely manner at properties.
  • Assist in seasonal leasing, movein and moveout seasons where workload increases.
  • Assist personnel from other Amber Peak departments as required.
  • Take pride and ownership in the overall quality of properties and make maintenance suggestions to the Property Manager for work that should be completed.

Required Skills & Abilities:


  • Must be available to work extra hours as workload increases during leasing and turnover seasons and oncall rotations.
  • A desire and skill to interact directly with customers, assist them with their maintenance issues and clearly communicate outcomes and next steps.
  • A high degree of professionalism and dedication to fulfill the responsibilities required by this role.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication ability in English.
  • Must be physically fit with the ability to lift, carry or move heavy items.
  • Safety conscience and safetyoriented attitude
  • Highly organized, resultsoriented and with the ability to work in a multifunctional team environment.
  • Must have own tools and safety footwear.
  • Must have valid driver's license and own vehicle.
  • Background check required upon offer of employment.
  • Verification of previous roles required after offer of employment.

Qualifications
Education

  • Completion of grade 12 or equivalent
  • Post Secondary Education considered an asset
Experience

  • Minimum one year experience in construction, trades, or similar industries

Working Conditions
Physical

  • Periods of prolonged standing.
  • Exposure to outdoors (hot & cold)
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects approx. 50lbs
Psychological

  • Periods of potential high pressure and stress.
  • Dealing with confrontation and differing views

Salary:
$20.00-$28.00 per hour
