    Redpath Sugar is part of the ASR Group, the world's largest refiner and marketer of cane sugar, with an annual production capacity of more than 6 million tons of sugar.

    The Redpath Belleville plant is a blending and packaging operation producing a variety of sugar containing products for customers in Canada and the U.S. The plant operates state of the art high speed mixing and packaging systems supported by high level safety, quality and logistics systems.

    OVERVIEW

    The Quality Assurance Laboratory Technician Student is responsible for effectively planning and coordinating their time to ensure accurate analysis of all materials. Through monitoring and auditing of all production areas the lab technician assists production to maintain ASR-Redpath Sugar Ltd. Quality and Food Safety Standards.

    DUTIES:

    • Actively participates in Redpath's safety goals and objectives
    • Interacts and participates in departmental safety meetings and activities
    • Performs timely analysis
    • Provides feedback on analyses
    • Provides testing support in process troubleshooting
    • Actively participates in maintaining HACCP plan and GMPs
    • Identifies areas requiring attention and suggests the appropriate follow-up action
    • Maintains healthy working relationships with co-workers

    RESPONSIBILITY:

    • Various testing on granulated sugar containing products, raw materials, in-process, and finished product samples, other samples as assigned
    • Laboratory equipment verification
    • Sample collection
    • Documentation and analysis of results
    • Filing various paperwork
    • Maintains and troubleshoots testing equipment
    • Assist in troubleshooting of process, packaging and maintenance systems
    • Assists with HACCP and GMPs
    • Other tasks as identified

    RELATIONSHIPS/INTERDEPARTMENT LIAISONS:

    • Interacts with process and packaging supervision on paperwork issues, sampling issues.
    • Communicates to process and packaging supervision quality issues with finished products.
    • Interacts with QA team members to ensure the performance of various testing equipment
    • Provides feedback on trends to quality management
    • Interacts with process and packaging teams to maintain the integrity of HACCP plans and GMPs
    • Works closely with other laboratory staff in order to maintain efficient testing, clean working environment

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

    Experience:

    • To be considered for this position, you must be at least 18 years of age and MUST be returning to school in the fall. Returning students are required to complete a new application.
    • Demonstrates good laboratory skills and techniques.
    • HACCP training and experience in maintaining food safety programs beneficial
    • Must be capable of troubleshooting and resolving issues in fast-paced manufacturing environment. Knowledge and proficient computer skills in standard Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access, Visio)
    • Familiarity with SAP a definite bonus.

    Education:

    • Enrollment in a College or university program related to chemistry, food science (or equivalent) focus.

    What We Offer:

    • The wage for this position is $21.26/ hour.

    This is a seasonal position from approximately May 01, 2024 to August 30, 2024. All applicants must be enrolled and/or returning to a post-secondary institution in September 2024. This seasonal position is also available for students completing co-op terms.
