The Research Associate (Epidemiology) is primarily responsible for conducting research and analysis activities based on project, program, and operational plans in the Occupational Cancer Research Centre.

As part of this role, the Research Associate will work both independently and with other staff to advance our understanding of workplace risk factors and exposures and work-related risk of disease in Ontario.

By working within a multi-disciplinary team and cross-functional organization, the Research Associate will have the opportunity to gain skills and experience in a variety of initiatives.


Here is what you will be doing:

  • Provide study, project, program, and operational support as required, with an emphasis on data analysis and visualization
  • Develops the tools, templates and processes required to execute the research and analysis activities, including for grant-funded studies
  • Identifies key sources of information and data
  • Defines the research scope, expected deliverables, and workplan in coordination with the Manager and Scientists
  • Undertakes detailed research activities, including researching various information sources; and organizing and facilitating working sessions with key stakeholders to gather the required information and data
  • Reviews the quality of the information and data collected and analyzes this information
  • Conducts advanced statistical analyses using SAS or R, critically interpret results, and present findings in reports and knowledge transfer products for a variety of audiences
  • Drafts reports that summarize research conducted and provide recommendations on actions required, highlighting critical areas for consideration
  • Contributes to the analysis, interpretation and writing of research articles for publication
  • If required, assists the Manager and Scientists in presenting the research and analysis to stakeholders
  • Works with different stakeholders to test or monitor the recommendations and solutions stemming from the analysis
  • Identifies and escalates risks to the Manager and proposes recommendations to address the issues
  • Coordinates advisory groups or committees as needed, and facilitates meetings as required
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience- A graduate degree (e.g., MSc, MPH) in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Promotion or a related public health field- Required 2-3 years of experience- Experience using large, administrative data sets or health survey data is an asset

Knowledge and Skills- Ability to coordinate all aspects of a research project- Ability to work effectively in a team, but with mínimal supervision- Strong research and analytical capabilities- Strong written communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex information- Proficiency in SAS or R software for statistical analysis- Demonstrated computer and data management skills with proficiency in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)

Temporary Full-Time (12 month contract)

Paygrade: 4
