In 2023, our trauma team treated over 650 severely injured patients, including spinal injuries.The Inpatient Plastic Surgery Nurse Practitioner (Plastics NP) is an advanced practice nursing (APN) role that will offer you the opportunity to integrate clinical skills to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to promote excellence in spinal care clinical practice.Utilizing your comprehensive knowledge base and excellent ability to work autonomously, you will develop cohesive care plans for plastic surgery patients.     Description:

    As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems.     Required Qualifications:

    Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program and a minimum of master's degree. Registration with CRNA on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

    Additional Required Qualifications:

    Prioritizing management of health conditions; provide follow-up treatment; communicate with clients/ families about health findings, diagnoses, and prognoses; support/counsel clients in their personal responses to diseases, disorders, conditions. Monitor clinical outcomes for efficacy. Provide transition support into adult care system as required.Collaborate and/or consult with plastic surgeons, anesthesia, and specialists, communicating care plans with health care team. Accept/make referrals to, physicians/health professionals. Diagnose/treat diseases, illnesses, and conditions within the Nurse Practitioner's scope of practice. Focusing on perioperative related issues within scope including wound issues. Diagnose and order appropriate screening diagnostic investigations; interpret reports of investigations and analyze information to monitor progress and plan treatment. Prescribe drugs within the statutory and regulatory standards, limits and conditions for Nurse Practitioners, within applicable employer policies and procedures. Apply knowledge of pharmacology and evidence-based practice in selecting, prescribing, administering, and monitoring the effects of drugs to treat diseases disorders, conditions, or injuries. The NP will prescribe, manage, and titrate medications inclusive of opioids as required as part of the perioperative care. Prescribe for and manage perioperative conditions within scope.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Working knowledge of Connect Care and Alberta NetCare. ACLS and TNCC would be an asset. Certified in level I and II sharps wound debridement. Experience with the ARCH program would an asset.Work consultatively as part of the multidisciplinary team, develop and provide initial treatment plans and modify plans accordingly.Provide direct medical coverage and will function with autonomy and authority with day-to-day clinical care responsibility across the Inpatient Plastic Surgery Program.
