As an HSE Coordinator, you will work with the HSE Manager to fulfill all health and safety and environmental functions in the location, this will include: focusing on incident prevention, investigation, reporting and follow up, employee training and HSE record review.
As a key figure in the local health & safety culture, the incumbent will foster that culture in leading by example and ensuring their behaviour is fully aligned with the ALS Health and Safety Program.
Specific Responsibilities- Lead safety committee meetings and committee training;
- Manage the First Aid program; including ordering supplies, reporting, resources and scheduling;
- Coordinate the incident response process; including investigations, reporting and follow up tracking by the ALSnet online portal;
- Follow up on monthly site safety inspections and ensure identified items are acted on;
- Review and prepare safety performance information for local management;
- Recommend corrective and preventative safety measures and appropriate safety equipment and materials to local management;
- Lead risk and hazard identification processes for the health, safety and environment;
- Ensure corrective action, identified through investigations, inspections and hazard notifications is acted on in a timely manner and documented;
- Coordinate HSE training for all employees (WHIMS, TDG, etc.);
- Maintain and update MSDS records stored on site;
- Implement North American HSE policies and procedures;
- Organize emergency procedures and drills;
- Assist with other local HSE or compliance programs as required by North American HSE & Compliance Director, Geochemistry;
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
- Other duties as assigned.
- Strong organizational skills and followthrough on commitments and deadlines;
- Able to speak in public and present information to groups;
- Possess tact, diplomacy and effective communication skills;
- Intermediate MS office skills are required;
- Strong understanding of the need to maintain confidentiality and discretion;
- Able to effectively handle escalations and time critical issues.
- Completion of College level or Institutional Health and Safety Programs or equivalent is preferred;
- Minimum of 1year experience in a Laboratory environment is required;
- Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
- Ability to use and view a computer screen for up to 8 hours per day;
