The Nursing Supervisor of Red Oak Villa will be responsible to work collaboratively with the Resident Services team and provide support and guidance to the staff.

The Nursing Supervisor shall serve as a coach and mentor to all employees of the department, leading by example to inspire and motivate every individual.

A large component of this role involves residents, their family members and team interactions.


Qualifications:


  • Current Certificate of Competence as a Registered Practical Nurse (minimum) with the College of Nurses.
  • Theoretical and applied knowledge of the Practice Standards set out by the Ontario College of Nurses.
  • Willingness to update and keep current knowledge of changing regulations, practices and procedures as set out by the Ontario College of Nurses.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years managerial experience in a retirement setting, longterm care setting or equivalent knowledge with relevant experience.
  • Empathy for and understanding of the needs of the elderly and / or mentally / physically disabled.
  • Ability to relate to all levels of staff, the residents and their families with a high degree of patience, tolerance and confidentiality.
  • Initiative, good judgement and leadership abilities. Supervisory capabilities.
  • Good communication skills; both oral and written. Good public relation skills.
  • Familiar with standards set out in the Retirement Homes Act, 2010 (RHA) and the function of the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority (RHRA).
  • Free from communicable diseases.
  • Working knowledge of the following legislation:
  • Employment Standards Act Residential Tenancies Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Coroner's Act, Public Health Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)_

Overview of Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate, administer, direct and follow up on all activities of the Wellness Centre, including the management of human, physical and financial resources.
  • Oversee and participate in the provision of high quality care for residents and maintain resident satisfaction.
  • Conduct functional assessments and analyse in conjunction with Physician Statements to determine appropriate supports and suitability of new and existing residents in the Assisted Living environment upon admission and ongoing.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all financial, human resources and personal health information data.
  • Be knowledgeable of and practice the facility's fire and safety programs
  • Manage the provision of care to residents in accordance with the guidelines set by the Ontario College of Nurses and other legislative requirements set out in the above mentioned acts and ensure compliance at all times.
  • Propose improvements to and updates for policies and procedures for the Resident Services department to ensure a high level of care for residents and an effective and satisfying operating environment for employees.
  • Provide leadership and motivation to Resident Services Staff (RSS) for the achievement of the facility's objectives.
  • Ensure maintenance of accurate records of residents, personnel, and the operations in order to participate in case conference meetings, human resource management meetings and other communication meetings with up to date information.
  • Ensure monthend report is completed as set out by AMLC
  • Purchase all supplies, approve and code invoices pertaining to the Wellness Centre and submit to the Administrative Assistant no later than three business days after month's end. Submit purchase orders to the Administrator for purchases over $500 for approval.
  • Represent the Resident Services department at all staff and resident meetings.
  • Actively participate in weekly Senior Leadership Team (SLT) meetings and ensure that regular monthly staff meetings are held for the RSS department.
  • Liaise and consult with CCAC, discharge planners, family physicians, pharmacy, resident family members and other professionals in relation to the operation of the Wellness Centre and resident care.
  • Undertake all other responsibilities as delegated by the Administrator.
