The Regional Coordinator of Mi'kmaw Education/Services shall be responsible for the coordination and leadership in all aspects of Mi'kmaw and Indigenous education, programs and services; supervising Mi'kmaw Student Support Workers; collaborating with centre Coordinators; advising and assisting the Regional Executive Director and the Director of Program and Student Services; coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the ongoing implementation of Treaty Education initiatives within schools and programs for Mi'kmaw and other Indigenous students; and participating in decision making with Senior Management on issues related to Mi'kmaw students and communities.

The Coordinator will also assist in the implementation of initiatives and strategies which will have the highest impact on Mi'kmaw student success as outlined by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Promising Practices in Supporting Success for Indigenous Students.


The Coordinator will have a broad mandate covering students, parents/guardians, community groups and staff, and must work closely with Program and Student Services staff, School Administration, School Advisory Councils, and Human Resources.

The Coordinator will also be responsible for liaising with Mi'kmaw Communities, Mi'kmaw organizations, Mi'kmaw Kina'matnewey (MK), and Mi'kmaw Elders.

The expertise and advice provided to the Regional Executive Director and Senior Staff team shall be in the areas of equity, inclusion, student achievement, and engagement and includes responsibilities and guidance in such areas as communication, strategic planning, policy development, curriculum, professional development, service delivery and human resources.

Working collaboratively within a team environment, the Coordinator reports to the Director of Program and Student Services and has a direct connection with the Mi'kmaq Services Division (MSD).


This is a designated position for a Mi'kmaw person. Only Mi'kmaw applicants who self-identify by completing the Diversity Management category on the Questionnaire section of the online resume will be considered.

Qualifications:

a) Diploma, bachelors' degree or a professional designation in a related discipline with extensive experience and knowledge of Mi'kmaw/Indigenous learners, communities and organizations. Equivalences such as a combination of course work and/or volunteer experience related to education, community engagement and/or policy and program development will also be considered;
b) Knowledge of Mi'kmaw Ways of Being and Knowing, Netukulimk and Etuaptmumk;
c) Experience in equity work particularly in relation to the Mi'kmaw/Indigenous context;
d) Knowledge of the Mi'kmaw Language considered an asset.


Salary:


This is a non union PEG (Professional Employees Group) position on Band 12 of the Non-Bargaining Pay Plan with an annual salary range of $99,021.78 to $123,777.16 effective August 1, 2023.
