Position Summary:

The primary function of the support staff is to ensure that the company operates in a manner that is consistent with the goals and objectives of the treatment program in coordination with clinical staff during the day and during those periods when the clinical and administrative staff are not on duty.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Life skills teaching opportunities such as making beds, cleaning, etc. with patients.
  • Discharge summaries.
  • Facilitate newcomers' group.
  • Facilitate therapeutic and community meetings and address any issues/concerns or items requiring follow up.
  • Monitor patient structure attendance.
  • Support patients when they are unable to remain in structure.
  • Driving patients as required.
  • Supporting patients when emotionally dysregulated.
  • Monitor patients needing computer/phone time for financial/legal/family issues, etc. as directed by clinical staff.
  • Conduct regular rounds of the facility, checking on patients and reporting anything unusual.
  • Support patients and clinical team in signing out and recording personal effects.
  • Assist admissions department as required.
  • Wash patient clothing following clothing exchange as needed, ensuring that washing and drying instructions on labels are followed.
  • Support clinical staff in discharging of patients.
  • Keep up to date progress notes as required.
  • Check and ensure white book is up to date and managed effectively.
  • Makes available to patients, prescribed medications as per Pharmacotherapy and Detox Policies & Procedures.
  • Monitors all patient activities when counselling staff are not on the premises and ensures that such activities are conducted according to the "Patient Responsibilities", and/or the general operational procedures of the facility.
  • Ensures patients and facility are secure after all scheduled daily activities have been completed in the evening.
  • Ensure all offices and group rooms are locked after regular business hours.
  • Immediately notifies the appropriate on call management staff or Medical Director in the event of any emergency or unusual circumstance.
  • Documents in the appropriate logbook any significant occurrences and a general impression of activities during the shift.
  • Participates in case consultation and treatment coordination with other members of multi-disciplinary team.
  • Administers first aid (if trained) in case of emergency while waiting for medical staff and/or emergency professionals to arrive.
  • Housekeeping and clerical tasks as listed on duty roster.
  • Answer telephone and handles all calls as instructed.
  • Participates in in-service workshops as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as requested by the Support Staff Supervisor and/or Management

Work Schedule:

Support staff hours consist of up to 8 hour shifts, to a maximum of 40 hours per week. Hours of work are required 24 hours, 7 days a week, including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Support staff receives a 1⁄2 hour paid break during a shift of 5 hours or more.


Experience and Qualifications:


  • Certificate from a recognized Health Care Worker educational program such as Community Health
Worker Program and/or experience in related field an asset.

  • Trauma informed training/experience an asset.
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent diploma.
  • Must be able to read and write and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to understand and follow directions.
  • Must have good hearing and eyesight.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Level C.
  • Clear Criminal record check through the Ministry of Justice.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License in good standing
