Victim Services of Durham Region (VSDR) is a non-profit, community-based organization that is dedicated to providing assistance to individuals who have been impacted by crime or sudden tragedy.

We work to prevent violence through awareness and education. We also provide prevention programming and training for parents, professionals, youth and the community.


Victim Services of Durham Region is seeking a Program Manager to plan and coordinate the development of a Child and Youth Advocacy Centre in Durham Region.


Primary Function


To support the needs of victims of crime and tragic circumstance and provide a full range of trauma-informed, victim-centered supportive services, including needs assessment, crisis intervention, client coordination, knowledge sharing, emotional support and referrals to other community services agencies.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete the development, implementation and drafting of policies, partner agreements and Memoranda of Understanding pertinent to the multidisciplinary collaboration and coordination of services within an Anti-Oppression, Anti-Racism, Equity Framework.
  • Support with the development and drafting of protocols and service pathways for multidisciplinary procedures, case documentation, information sharing and other areas as needed.
  • Support with the coordination and delivery of multidisciplinary training programs pertinent to the operation of a CYAC.
  • Oversee the development and launch of CYAC website.
  • Conduct site explorations and cost analyses for possible future centralized location.
  • Researching and identifying appropriate case management database as required.
  • Prepare for, attend and participate in CYAC Development committee meetings.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key partners, community groups, and those with lived experience.
  • Promote public awareness of and support for the CYAC by producing educational and promotional materials and attending community events as required.
  • Oversee the development of a Fundraising and sustainability plan.

Experience, Training and Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Social Work or related field.
  • Experience in collaborative, crosssectoral program development and/or project management in the social services sector.
  • Experience/knowledge about the criminal justice system, child welfare, programs and services for child/youth victims of crime and community support services.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and/or organizational skills. Ability to multitask, set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain strong working relationships.
  • Solid understanding and demonstrated experience in and commitment to traumainformed, antioppressive, antiracist practices and equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of intergenerational trauma and understanding of systemic barriers faced by BIPOC individuals.
  • A strong commitment to social justice, cultural safety and a wholistic approach in program development and community collaboration.

Working Environment:

  • The ability to travel within Durham Region and provide own transportation.
  • May be required to work flexible hours (evenings, weekends) on an infrequent basis.

Compensation:

  • Annual Salary $75,000 plus benefits. Eligibility for OMERS pension plan effective January 1, 202
