    What can I expect to do in this role?

    In this role, you will:


    • Manage or provide expert traffic engineering input to a range of specialized, large, cross divisional complex traffic design projects/studies from concept to implementation to effect improvements
    • Manage the planning and leadership of concurrent complex traffic related projects
    • Provide direction and expertise in the resolution of all related project engineering related issues
    • Provide engineering expertise to senior management and staff within the region and across the divisions
    • Provide technical expertise in the analysis and resolution of complex traffic control and advisory issues, unique design requests/ requirements using a variety of tools and software
    • Present proposals/designs to senior management, local municipalities and other agencies to negotiate and resolve issues and obtain endorsements.
    • Represent the ministry as an expert witness on legal proceedings and inquiries to give evidence requiring engineering and technical advice

    How do I qualify?

    Mandatory



    • You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
    • The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's licence upon being hired.

    Traffic Engineering Knowledge

    You have:


    • Knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of highway design and maintenance with expert understanding of highway and traffic engineering, traffic control devices and traffic analysis software and ITS systems, roadside safety, illumination and traffic characteristics.

    Communication and Relationship-Building Skills:

    You have:


    • Written and oral communication skills, consultation, presentation and interpersonal skills to prepare reports, present technical material, provide advice and establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders and contractors.

    Project Management and Leadership Skills:

    You have:


    • Knowledge of project management techniques and project planning and management skills to manage a range of specialized, large, cross divisional traffic design projects/studies from concept to implementation.
    • Leadership skills to provide engineering, technical and administrative direction to Traffic Design Engineers and other project team members.

    Analytical, Research and Problem-Solving Skills:

    You have:


    • Analytical and problem-solving skills to analyse and resolve complex traffic control and advisory issues, unique design requests/ requirements and to identify and recommend new initiatives, technologies or equipment modifications to reflect current state of engineering technology

    Computer Skills:

    You have:


    • Knowledge of computers and associated traffic engineering software (such as Vissim and Aimsum) to use in to the field of traffic operations and engineering
    • Knowledge of research methodologies, data collection and modelling/forecasting techniques.
