Job Description:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
This laboratory position is responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the Quality Management System (QMS) in conformance with SGS requirements and the international standard ISO.
This position could communicate with the North American OGC Services Responsible to ensure that the laboratory quality system is in line and in laboratory conformance to the Quality Management System.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure strict adherence to the Laboratory Quality System in an efficient and sustainable manner and in conjunction with the laboratory Manager, the SGS Canada organization and the North American OGC Services Responsible.
Work with technicians and department Managers to continuously improve products and services.
Ensure continual operation of laboratory equipment on a 24/7 basis.
Assist in training laboratory technicians.
Calibrate, validate and maintain laboratory equipment per quality management system requirements.
Ensure all instrument calibrations are up-to date.
Delegate and investigate outliers of proficiency testing samples.
Maintain statistical process control charting.
Implement new analytical laboratory capabilities.
Communicate to management the requirements for repairs, maintenance and replacement of laboratory equipment.
Investigate non-conformances and opportunities for improvement within the quality management system.
Help establish and set priorities on Quality issues
Operate to the highest standards of ethics, in accordance with the SGS standards of ethics and Integrity.
Demonstrates good and safe work habits and enforces a clean working environment.
May be assigned special or ad hoc projects, periodically.
Qualifications:
PROFILE
- Education: College Degree in Science related program is required. Member of OCQ is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum 510 years experience in laboratory and/or field
- Relevant technical expertise in analytical chemistry and/or inspection and Quality Management Systems
- Must be creative and task oriented
- Proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner;
- Knowledge of another language besides English (French) is important;
- Good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are needed;
- Data, information collection, quick decision, action plan and resolution of problems
- Must be accountable, self motivated;
- Able to lead and motivate towards a common goal;
- Ability to work well with others & independently;
- Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail;
- Works well under pressure;
- Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time;
- Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time;
- Ensures full compliance with the company's Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.
