DESCRIPTION

Michels Canada is looking for an Estimator to join our growing preconstruction team Working directly with a team of estimators and proposal specialists, the estimator will be bidding on Civil infrastructure projects related to open cut trenching, large diameter tunneling, micro tunneling, shaft construction, structural form work and foundations.

This position can be based out of our downtown Vancouver office, or our Canadian headquarters in Nisku AB.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers. Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Provide support to the Senior Project Manager during tendering phase of all projects. Assemble accurate, timely and wellorganized estimates and new project setup documents, including bids, construction management, design builds, cost estimates and control budgets.
  • Utilize your technical abilities to analyze drawings and specifications. Coordinate tender process and maintain a good relationship with clients, subcontractors, consultants, vendors, end users and suppliers. Create and issue quotes/proposal submission documents.
  • Review bid requirements for projects, prepare and attend site walkthroughs and project site meetings, review and confirm geotechnical conditions, draft risk matrix and prepare takeoffs. Assist in creating preliminary budgets for all successful tender projects and change order pricing.
  • Assist with the overall management of major infrastructure projects from preconstruction phase until completion.

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Minimum of 5 years' experience estimating heavy civil infrastructure projects with a variety of project delivery methodologies.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Excel, Bluebeam, MS Project, and Heavy Bid (HCSS
  • Experience and highly skilled in negotiating pricing while maintaining strong integrity and relationship with suppliers and vendors.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineered drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license for the type(s) of vehicles which may be driven and an acceptable driving record.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
DESIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout Canada is preferred.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office Suite

LANGUAGES

  • Must be able to communicate verbally and through written language (by hand and digitally) in English.
