- Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
- Experience in the conservation and/or monitoring of the environment, natural resources or species.
- Experience in analyzing scientific information for the development of reports, maps or other specialized presentations of data.
- Experience in collaborating with stakeholders on natural resource management issues.
- Experience participating in public consultations, including developing consultation materials and/or analyzing results.
- Experience in assessing or monitoring impacts of human activities on fish or fish habitat
- Experience in marine spatial planning and/or marine conservation.
- Experience in the listing or recovery of species at risk.

The Ecosystems Management Branch in the Newfoundland and Labrador Region works to protect, enhance and restore the biodiversity and health of marine and freshwater environments through an integrated ecosystem approach that supports the sustainable use of aquatic resources.
There is a growing understanding among Canadians of the importance of protecting and benefiting from our marine and freshwater environments and resources. The Government of Canada is using a modern and coordinated approach to manage the impact of human activities on Canada's oceans in a sustainable manner, creating a balance between protecting marine ecosystems and maintaining a prosperous economy.
The Ecosystems Management Branch includes the following programs:
While key activities will vary from position to position and among programs, in general, employees in BI-02 and PC-02 positions may be expected to conduct analyses, participate and consult with various partners and stakeholders, undertake field work, participate as a representative on a working group, draft documents, and make recommendations to supervisors regarding the implementation of various regulatory, management, and conservation programs.
Intent of the process
This is an anticipatory process. The intent of this selection process is to create a pool of fully or partially qualified candidates to be used to staff these or similar or lower level positions within Fisheries and Oceans Canada in Newfoundland and Labrador. This process may be used to staff various tenures, including indeterminate, specified period, deployments, assignment, secondments and actings.
