    Job summary

    An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Team on one of the medical wards based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. The post will be instrumental in developing the rehabilitation provision for patients on the ward, working closely with the whole MDT.

    The post is full time including either a Saturday or Sunday to be able to offer targeted rehabilitation to patients across other medical wards at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

  • Main duties of the job

    o Provision of equipment as assessed by Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapisto Mobilising patients alongside Physiotherapisto Functional activities and assessments such as washing, dressing and other activities of daily livingo Promoting activity with patientso Progressing exercise programmes with patientso Gaining collateral history from patient's familyo Completing relevant clinical notes and ongoing referrals as relevanto Working alongside MDT to provide best care for patientso Communicating effectively with patient, family and encouraging participation in rehabo Home assessment visits as appropriate alongside therapists

    Job description

    Job responsibilities

  • Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist and Speech and Language Therapist. To work alongside the Therapist to deliver Therapy to a complex caseload on the ward.
  • To independently manage a designated caseload of patients defined as noncomplex within a specified clinical area, providing assessment and interventionson behalf of the Therapies within predetermined guidelines.
  • To deliver and fit assistive equipment in the patients home as directed by the therapist.
  • Please note it is a requirement of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS method of payment is a salary deduction from your first months pay.

    Qualifications & Education

    Essential

  • Sound general education
  • Technical qualification NVQ Level III Health related or equivalent technical/work experience
  • Knowledge & Experience

  • Previous experience of working with patients
  • Working with older people
  • Broad range of life experiences An appreciation of the principles of rehabilitation
  • An understanding of manual handling principles
  • Have the ability to reflect and appraise own performance so to maintain own continued personal development
  • Have a basic understanding of the principles of behaviour and conduct in practice
  • Desirable

  • Experience of working with individuals with a physical disability stroke
  • Working as a member of a team
