Faculty of Nursing is seeking
Sessional Nursing Instructors to teach an undergraduate level clinical course within Siksika First Nation, for the
Fall Semester 2024 and
Winter Semester 2025 as follows:
FALL SEMESTER (September - December 31, 2024)

  • TERM
  • NURS 289 (Integrating Nursing Roles and Practices I): Community Health_
WINTER SEMESTER (January - April 30, 2025)

  • TERM
  • NURS 389 (Integrating Nursing Roles and Practices II): Long Term Care_


We are seeking applicants with nursing practice experience working with Indigenous peoples in community health, long-term care and/or home care community environments, particularly those with previous nursing education practice experience with Indigenous nursing students.

Practice education takes place both on and off campus. Applicants who are interested in teaching the lab or clinical alone are invited to apply. Please indicate in the cover letter if you are available for the lab, clinical, or both.

mileage for instructor travel may be covered)


Schedule:


Fall Term 3:
Lab Wednesday Old Sun Community College); Clinical: Thursdays and Fridays


Winter Term 4:
Lab Wednesday Old Sun Community College); Clinical: Thursdays ; Fridays

The successful applicants are required to be available during that entire period(s).


Teaching Responsibilities:


  • Facilitate onsite and remote low to midfidelity simulation activities within the Clinical Learning Centre at Wainwright Health Center
  • Work effectively with small groups of students oncampus or in off campus settings in acute care, chronic care, longterm care or community
  • Participate in team meetings related to the practice course and faculty governance
  • Participate in student assessment and evaluations on and off campus
  • Encourage and foster an environment of inquiry and valuing of evidence informed practice

Qualifications:


Applied Experience:


  • Rural and Indigenous health practice experience related to semester focus
  • Experience engaging respectfully with Indigenous Elders and Traditional Knowledge Keepers
  • Broad experience across a variety of areas
  • Experience in clinical teaching, mentoring and supervision of students

Enhanced Abilities:


  • Application of adult teaching/learning principles
  • Use of nursing process and conceptual frameworks assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation
  • Communication and collaboration skills with other health professionals
  • Teamwork and leadership skills
  • Evaluation and promotions of student problem solving and critical thinking
  • Ability to critique student performance and provide meaningful feedback
  • Prioritizing and meeting competing demands/requirements of varied settings
