Pinawa, Manitoba is looking for a
Manager of the Health and Safety Services - onsite.

The Manager of HS Services is accountable to the Director, Corporate Occupational Health& Safety for the effective implementation of the Health and Safety Services program in compliance with CNL policies at the Whiteshell Restoration Project.

The Manager is responsible for managing the associated branch resources and coordination of services in a safe and efficient manner.

What will you be doing?

  • Promoting safe practices, good housekeeping and a culture which minimizes and/or eliminates safety incidents.
  • Identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement in program materials and ensures the development or revision of program elements.
  • Developing strategic plans in collaboration with the customer base, to ensure improved efficiency and dependability of the services provided.
  • Maintaining a skilled, effective and motivated workforce through recruiting, training and supervision of professional, technical, administrative and contract staff that meets and anticipates customer requirements. Includes generating position descriptions, training plans, Powered by People and performance assessments.
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring programs and processes to identify and eliminate risks within the operation and ensures timely remediation of those risks.
  • Managing the HSS budget, ensuring adherence to project budgets, schedules and QA requirements.
  • Evaluating, recommending and justifying nonroutine expenditures and resource adjustments as required.
  • Monitoring trends and regularly reports on the status of various stages of incident management, supporting line management in identifying actions to prevent reoccurrence. Ensures timely and effective incident management.
  • Recognizing the need for change and communicating the change in a compelling picture to employees.
  • Supporting the provision of proactive and ongoing counsel and coaching to Managers and line employees on all requirements under OSH and IH to ensure safe work practices, appropriate resolution to incidents, injuries or nearmiss situations and alignment with companywide OHS requirements and legislation (i.e., shut down, lock down, work stoppage, etc.)
  • Initiating and supporting teamwork and collaboration across organizational boundaries.
  • Constructively works with others to reach shared objectives or settle differences through mutual concessions.
  • Acts to promote commitment to a team, task or shared goal while facilitating the group to take responsibility for its goals.
  • Working closely with internal departments to facilitate their implementation of the OSH program.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

What we are looking for:


Someone who has the ability to:

  • Strong working knowledge of the Canada Labour Code and Manitoba Occupational Health and Safety Act Regulations.
  • Experience with development, implementation, presentation and evaluation of programs, particularly in a laboratory, construction and demolition environment.
  • Able to identify hazards within industrial work environments, including process systems and components, machine tools and heavy equipment.
  • Industrial hygiene knowledge in areas such as hazardous chemicals/WHMIS, noise, heatstress, confined space entry and personal protective equipment and clothing (PPE&C).
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement change in a feasible way that maintains commitment and involvement of all stakeholders and impacted individuals/groups.
  • Motivated, selfstarting, detail oriented and exceptional organizational skills for managing multiple and concurrent projects (both short and long term).

Experience

  • Management experience with strong interpersonal, problem solving, analytical skills along with advanced technical knowledge.
  • Basic to intermediate Microsoft Office skills for the development of program content, procedures, and data management.

Education

  • University degree in a related field of study, or 7 years of experience in a relevant technical/operational work environment at the management level.
  • Has or is willing and able to acquire Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation.

Security

  • Reliability Status which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security".
