Effective communication skills with students, parents and colleagues

Commitment to continuing professional development

Successful experience with adapting and modifying materials for a diversity of learners

Working knowledge of using computing technology to support learning

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor of Education (Secondary)

Post-Graduate Diploma or Master's Degree in Special Education including University course work in the following (or equivalent) courses:
Student Exceptionality

Assessment for Special Education

Collaboration and Consultation in Special Education

Behavioural, Social and Emotional Needs

Assistive Technology

Teaching Students with Developmental Difficulties

Differentiating Instruction/Inclusive Classrooms

Advanced Assessment and Intervention

Development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs)

Five years of demonstrated successful classroom/Instructional Support teacher experience


Desirable Characteristics/Attributes:

Demonstrated use of highly successful instructional strategies in the classroom for secondary school age students

Ability to work closely as a member of a team

Effective communication skills, demonstrated through positive relationships with students, staff and parents
