  • The
    Assistant Director of Care (_FullTime Permanent_) in this Accredited 160 bed LTC Home will report to the Director of Care and the Administrator. This person will assist with the coordination of activities necessary to ensure that the nursing department is operated efficiently while in compliance with all applicable legislation and Ministry of Health requirements.
Together with the leadership team and the nursing department, you are expected to:


Hours of work: 11am to 7pm

  • Provides the highest standard of care through effective use of the nursing theory and process.
  • Works with the Director of Care, Assistant Director of Care, and Manager Of Resident Quality Care, to manage nursing programs, including but not limited to: falls, wounds, restraints and continence.
  • Oversee performance measures, outcomes, and action plans. Provide unit level support and education to staff related to these programs.
  • Implements the risk management program and processes to monitor, evaluate and improve the quality of services including performance indicators, measures and outcomes.
  • Participates in the effective collection of data and its analysis, interpretation, reporting and action plan development.
  • Uses effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with team partners and engage residents and families, living the home's Mission and Vision while achieving established goals.
  • Promotes good communication and a healthy work environment to achieve a high level of employee satisfaction.
  • Assists with the selection, orientation, education/development and evaluation of registered and nonregistered staff.
  • Provides input into workforce planning and staff scheduling.
  • Provides input into ensuring that sufficient supplies and equipment are available.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures which carry out the philosophy of the Home.
  • Liaises with other departments, the Ministry of Health Officers, physicians, psychiatrists, and coroner, representatives of other health care facilities and families/responsible parties.
  • Understands, implements and enforces compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and applicable policies and procedures. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, disability management, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in inservices and fire drills.
  • Ensures that sufficient nursing supplies and equipment are available.
  • Complies with all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualification and Experience:


  • Current registration in good standing as Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Previous management/supervision experience preferred.
  • Education in healthcare management an asset.
  • A minimum of 1 year working in Long Term Care.
  • Strong clinical knowledge with a focus in gerontology in order to provide direction and guidance to the registered staff and PSW's
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact with staff, residents, families, community professionals and various outside partners
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word/Excel/Power Point)
  • Knowledge of the requirements of the LTCHA and Regulations, Ministry of Health Directives, appropriate sections of the Registered Health Professionals Act, Narcotic Control At, and Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Strong knowledge of RAI MDS and Point Click Care (PCC)
