POSITION TYPE:
One vacancy - Full-Time Fixed Term or Secondment (37.5 hours/week) - six months

This position is within the agency's Community Based Mental Health division. This position provides service to youth 12-18 years of age and their families.


KEY

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide intake, assessment, case management, consultation, support and referral services for youth and their families involved in the youth justice system;
  • Where appropriate, work with the courts and other service providers to develop and implement support plans designed to ensure that the youth receives the services needed;
  • Develop an extensive referral network and tracking system to support youth and families;
  • Work collaboratively with Judges, Crown Attorneys, Duty counsel, defense lawyers, and other youth justice services to ensure effective service delivery;
  • Seek out appropriate resources, liaise with and implement service planning collaboratively with community resources;
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of community outreach activities through the development of collaborative partnerships with other services such as youth justice courts, child welfare, probation, schools, agencies, hospitals, and ethnospecific organizations and communities;
  • Provide outreach to youth and families as needed in order to facilitate engagement in services;
  • Prepare Service Reports, case updates and maintain client records as per agency policies.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:


  • M.S.W. or M.A., with at least 2 years of professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Lived experience of oppression, antiblack racism, homophobia, transphobia and/or ableism, and a personal connection to queer or trans communities of colour, including newcomer and disability community are considered assets;
  • Experience working within youth court;
  • A selfstarter with an ability to work independently, as well as within an established team structure;
  • A strengthsbased, antiracism/antioppression, youth engagement philosophy of service provision and a belief in the resilience of youth;
  • A systems thinker with the capacity to build and nurture working relationships with partner agencies.

SKILLS
AND
KNOWLEDGE:


  • Working knowledge of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, Bail hearings and other court proceedings;
  • Solid working knowledge of the effects of substance use on mental health;
  • A capacity to develop and nurture strong working relationships with community agencies and the youth justice system;
  • Excellent assessment and intervention skills with youth and families;
  • Solid experience providing clinical services to ethnoracially and culturally diverse youth and their families and a willingness to adapt services to meet client needs;
  • Excellent crisis prevention skills and an ability to engage youth and tailor services to meet
their needs and those of their families;

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including report writing, data entry, and excellent organizational abilities;

ADDITIONAL

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Willing to work a flexible schedule to accommodate to the needs of the youth and family; including some evenings;
  • Satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Screening process;
  • Flexibility to work in different locations as needed;
  • Fluency in French or other language relevant to community is advantageous.
