The curriculum for the study of music developed by the RCM has become Canada's national standard.


RCM America is a not-for-profit entity created by The Royal Conservatory of Music to oversee the development, support, and expansion of our educational programming into new markets within the United States.

An exciting and recent strategic project, this US-based venture nurtures awareness of RCM programs while seeking to forge new partnerships that promote our core curricula as well as the launch of our Smart Start early childhood program for educators and learners.


What is the Opportunity?:

RCM America is currently seeking a regional business development lead within the state of California.

Reporting to the Director of Operations and Business Development, the Business Development Lead will support the growth and revenue generation from existing and expanding markets.

This role will reach set sales targets through effective management of designated region/territory and physical visits to client sites.

Th owner of this role will also develop ongoing, profitable relationships with clients and continually maintain a professional image of the RCM.


Main Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective and existing clients within assigned region.
  • Travel within assigned region to meet with prospects and existing clients.
  • Emphasize product features and benefits, quote prices, discuss terms, and prepare sales documentation and/or reports.
  • Track and report on KPIs related to progress of business development initiatives for assigned region.
  • Identify and inform senior leadership of potential business opportunities within assigned region and report on the progress of efforts.
  • Conduct market, industry, and competitor analyses, keeping abreast of current market trends.
  • Build and foster a network of referrals to create new opportunities for revenue growth.
  • Generate and develop new customer accounts to increase revenue, by cold calling if necessary.
  • Work closely with Sales and Marketing departments to help build RCM brand presence in the US, specifically the state of California.
  • Maintain accurate records, including sales call reports, expense reimbursement forms, billing invoices, and other documentation.
  • Assist in creating RFP responses to potential clients.
  • Periodically conduct informationonly presentations, such as seminars, trade show demonstrations, and other efforts.
  • Performing other rolerelevant duties as required.

Job Requirements:


What We're Looking For:


  • Background or degree(s) in music education and performance.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in business development, account management, or sales, with a proven track record in revenue generation.
  • Demonstrated ability to convert prospects and close deals while maintaining established quotas.
  • Customer service orientation and wellhoned interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and research skills.
  • Selfstarter that can work independently with mínimal supervision.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • An extensive network in music education is an asset.
  • Additional language skills (e.g., Mandarin, Cantonese) considered an asset.
  • A valid driver's license.

Additional Information:


  • The salary amount for this role is within $63,000 $68,000 (USD).
  • Occasional requirements to work outside of regular business hours.
  • May sit for extended periods of time with exposure to computer screen.
  • Up to 50% travel, primarily within the state of California.
