Th Estimator/Assistant Project Coordinator is located in office and sometimes on site and typically reports directly to the Project Manager.

Estimator/Assistant Project Coordinators analyze cost estimates and prepare take-offs on overhead line and underground distribution projects.

You will provide support in project operations, in planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating assigned project(s) from start to finish and in accordance with schedule, specifications and budget.

Their primary focus costs management, estimating, reporting, and handling project change under the direction of senior leadership.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prepares electrical/civil work take-offs and estimates on utility projects including costs of materials, labour and equipment required for projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications
  • Advises on tendering procedures; examines and analyzes tenders, recommends tender awards and conducts negotiations
  • Establishes and maintains tendering process, sets up cost monitoring, reporting systems and procedures
  • Coordinates price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers and architects regarding tenders
  • Participates in site review, tender review, tender handoff, and project closing, as required
  • Prepares and maintains a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
  • Liaises, consults and communicates with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors, and prepares economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
  • Conducts material and equipment purchasing for secured key projects
  • Updates and maintains Bid 2 Win/Accubid database
  • Assist Project Manager to ensure project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards are in accordance with company policy and contract specifications are met
  • Comply with all company health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures
  • Assist in planning and preparing construction schedules and milestones, and monitor progress against established timelines
  • Complete quantity take offs from construction drawings, track and update asbuilt quantities and field verify when required
  • Assist in preparing contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Assist in budget analysis, cost and margin projections, estimate project changes and impacts
  • Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules to clients
  • Document control
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or Electrical Engineering Technology

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 37 years of Estimating experience in the construction sector working on Overhead Lines/Underground Distribution Construction Projects

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Proficient knowledge and understanding of:

  • Contract management
  • Construction scheduling, planning, and execution
  • Blueprint reading
  • Project electrical, mechanical and structural design interpretation
  • Financial statements read and comprehend
  • Organization and time management

Proficient user of:

  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Project)
  • Accubid/Bid2Win
  • AutoCAD/Blue Beam
  • P6 Scheduling Software
  • JD Edwards or an Oraclebased ERP system is an asset
