_Facilitator, Newcomer Navigation & Support Unit _(for Ukrainian Community)
_. _You will report directly to the Program Manager of Newcomer Programs.

This individual is responsible for providing support/assistance to individuals with disabilities from Ukraine as they navigate through the appropriate social service/rehabilitation services within the mainstream community.

This individual will be working with both children with disabilities and their families and adults with disabilities.

This is a.4 EFT, 12-month term position.


Your Role

  • Provide direct cultural interpretation and facilitation services to individuals with disabilities and families, from Ukrainian Community, facing language and cultural barriers as they navigate through the rehabilitation process. Interpret in a Contextual Model rather than a Linguistic Model.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with other stakeholders who are providing services to individuals with disabilities of ethnic origin.
  • Provide a high degree of interaction and support to case managers (both externally and internally). Also provide support to Ukrainian and nonUkrainian community leaders regarding cultural interpretation and facilitation services for individuals with disabilities from Ukraine.
  • Provide direct leadership in the development, delivery and evaluation of workshops and presentations, to increase sensitivity/cultural awareness within service organizations and other agencies/groups as determined appropriate in consultation with the Program Manager.
  • Data Management through the use of Client Data Base, Service Request Forms and all other related documentation. Keep accurate and up to date records and client files both hard copy and on Client Data Base, compile monthly statistics.
  • Maintains outreach with the Ukraine community, and develops partnerships with organizations, community leaders, individuals and their families where disability is part of their lives (this can include but is not limited to making presentations, sharing information with groups/families about the Newcomer Navigation and Support Unit, access to services, specific aspects of disability, etc.).
  • Works in partnership with the program manager to initiate contact and make referrals to appropriate service providers within the mainstream community.
  • Works together, in a supportive capacity, with case managers as rehabilitation plans are developed and implemented with individual clients.
  • Supports Ukrainian individuals with disabilities, and their families, as they navigate through the social service system.
  • Provides direct cultural interpretation and facilitation services to clients and their families when required. (Can include but is not limited to providing information to clients on availability of services in the community, understanding the processes and procedures to receive services, health and disability related information, etc.).
  • Provides cultural interpretation to case managers/identified service providers as required to assist in increased sensitivity to culture and disability.
  • Represents the Newcomer Navigation and Support Unit, Manitoba Possible, when required at special events, forums, conferences, etc. at the request of the program manager.
  • Meets on a regular basis with the program manager at designated times to discuss the current status of individual clients, outreach activities, profession development needs, evaluation etc.
  • Participates in professional development activities as required where such activity will contribute to the overall goals of the program.
  • Attends regular staff meetings.
  • Keeps accurate and up to date records of all outreach and client related activities.
  • Complies with privacy and confidentiality as outlined in agency, provincial and federal policies and/or guidelines.
  • Adheres to the guidelines of the Newcomer Navigation and Support Unit, as well as the policies and procedures of Manitoba Possible.

What You Know

  • Post secondary degree in the Human Services Field. Previous experience working within the multicultural field an asset. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • 1 to 3 years' experience working in the human service sector. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with people with disabilities and an understanding of cultural barriers regarding disability. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Must be fluent in English, Ukrainian and Russian.
  • Ability to fluently communicate (both written and verbally) in Englis
