Database Analyst, Institutional Planning:

Full-Time Appointment


Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Director of Institutional Planning, the Institutional Database Analyst will be responsible for supporting the Institutional Planning (IP) office and staff in delivery of all services, functions and mandate related to its institutional data holdings including data creation, maintenance, verification and integrity. This position will take the lead on updating data holdings, design and regular maintenance of the IP data environment. The Database Analyst also helps to prepare accurate and detailed data analytics and trend analysis utilizing data visualization and business intelligence tools. This role will also provide innovative and effective methods to support the reporting and analysis requirements of the office for a variety of stakeholders (internal and external) providing accurate and timely information for university planning.

As part of the Institutional Planning Team, this position will:

  • Create, maintain, verify and update Institutional Planning office data holdings;
  • Use their programming expertise to import/export, process and develop various database and information management systems including but not limited to SQL Server, Excel, Access, R, Business Objects, SPSS and Tableau;
  • Import, manage and manipulate raw data, ensure data integrity, and coordinate processes for accurate data to support office requirements;
  • Monitor, report, and investigate data and system issues in support of data quality and integrity by establishing and maintaining control mechanisms for data holdings;
  • Recommend methods and means to most efficiently store and organize data;
  • Work on various data related projects including data analysis, data comparisons, file preparation for upload/download, file matching from other databases, and mass updates to the database;
  • Ensure storage and safeguard confidential information for all departmental data, analyses and reports;
  • Provide support for SQL Server development including programming, data preparation, assessing database design, evaluation of performance and storage requirements;
  • Create and organize data visualizations to provide internal and external stakeholders with effective and useful information in Tableau and other visualization tools to support their planning needs;
  • Support the reporting requirements and obligations of the IP office to Executive, Leadership and Collective Bargaining Teams (Administrative and Academic) through timely communication.
  • Research and provide sector and comparator data for the purposes of collective bargaining preparation, policy development, strategic operational planning, etc.
  • Maintain regular analysis and information on admission, enrolment, engagement, retention, survey analysis, and other information as needed to support the performance objectives of the institution;
  • Regularly update established Tableau dashboards with current data and presentation requirements (e.g. tables/visualizations) for internal stakeholder use;
  • Provide individual and group training, including expert guidance and support to internal stakeholders in interpretation and understanding of analysis and results;
