    The Ministry of Energy and Minerals is responsible for sustaining the interests of Albertans through the stewardship and responsible development of energy and mineral resource systems.

    The Strategy and Market Access Division is responsible for the department's strategic direction with a focus on energy security and market access, climate policy, development of a lower carbon natural gas value chain and clean energy investment attraction. It is also responsible for the policy and legislative coordination process and agencies, boards, and commissions.

    Role Responsibilities

    Reporting to Director, Regulatory Affairs, the Senior Regulatory Analyst will be an in-house subject matter expert on regulated industries within Alberta's energy markets. You will support the Director and Executive Director within the Strategy and Market Access Division, as well as other branches, in order to develop strategies and successfully advocate for Alberta's interests and objectives. You will play a critical role in supporting Alberta Energy & Minerals' long-term efforts to ensure the province's secure energy future and Albertans receive full value for the resources they own.

    The position operates with a high-degree of independence and is expected to stay abreast of evolving industry dynamics, complete thorough research, and put forward appropriate recommendations with the rationale for the recommendation clearly articulated.

    To be successful in this role, advanced problem-solving skills and critical thinking are required. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to :

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key industry contacts and participate in industry associations and committees.
  • Gather intelligence and stay abreast of industry developments and issues.
  • Complete regulatory research and analysis based on regulatory principles, precedent, intervenor motives, and historical information.
  • Monitor facilities and tolling proceedings at the Canadian Energy Regulator (CER) or other permit related activities in front of regulatory bodies across North America.
  • Participate in public hearings and, where prudent, actively advocate for Alberta's interests.
  • Prepare briefing notes and documents and and assist in drafting responses to internal action requests, as required, for senior leaders.
  • Continual enhancement of knowledge of the energy sector, regulatory principles, economic analysis, and government policies so that regulatory analysis can be improved and expanded.
