As a unit within the Division of Student Affairs, the Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) is responsible for providing institutional leadership in the delivery of a comprehensive student-focused accessible learning model and delivers training and education to further the University's commitment to provide equal access to all academic programs.

CAL is a core academic support unit for both students and faculty, and contributes to the recruitment and retention of students and fosters services and programs that value academic success, inclusion, accessibility, and universally designed environments.


Reporting to the Supervisor, Exam Services, this role is responsible for supporting the daily operations, coordination, and on-going delivery of UVic's accommodated testing, systems and procedures.

The Accommodated Exam Assistant supports the Coordinator of Accommodated Exams to enhance the provision of excellent services to students and faculty, and works closely with academic units to integrate services, processes and communication.


  • Job Requirements
    Experience:


A minimum of one (1) year of experience in a similar position, preferably in a post-secondary, exam environment, or institutional environment or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.


Preference will be given to applicants with:

  • Experience in a disability, counselling, mental health, or human service office
  • Previous exam invigilation experience
  • Familiarity with UVic services and programs

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


  • Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail, time management, and ability to multitask in a fastpaced environment
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively independantly and within a team environment, as well as the larger UVic community.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff, often in the context of emotional distress and/or crisis
  • Experience in effectively maintaining the confidentiality of highly personal and sensitive information
  • Ability to exercise initiative, active listening skills, good judgement, tact, and diplomacy
  • Ability to meet standards of confidentiality and academic integrity
  • Ability to respond to situations of emotional/health distress or crisis, and when required, escalate to Supervisor, Exam Services or other campus supports (i.e. counselling services, campus security).
  • Experience working with adaptive technology is an asset
  • Familiarity with ClockWork Technology (exam booking) or other complex database software and a variety of assistive technology such as Kurzweil and Dragon is an asset

Specialized Knowledge/Education:

Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
