Summary
The Apprentice Machinist will be trained to work independently on common operations and is responsible for the conversion of raw materials to a finished milled product while ensuring conformance to design specifications in an accurate and timely manner.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Read and interpret shop work instructions and shop procedures
- Learn how to produce machined components to specifications by studying sample parts, blueprints, drawings, or engineering information
- Learn to operate Horizontal Boring Mill, Vertical Turret Lathe, Milling and/or Engine Lathe, Drill Press
- Follow given instructions/duties by the Machine shop supervisor that are not listed above (in the absence of the supervisor another supervisor or shop foreman will be available)
- Review quality issues with quality assurance, manufacturing support, and engineering to resolve quality issues and take corrective actions as required.
- Learn how to select appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used for machining work
- Measure, examine and test completed parts in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
- Deburr parts / clean the shop
- Successfully complete Operator Safety Training of Powered Industrial Equipment Training Course
- Must participate in the company's Health & Safety program
- Significant overtime and weekend work required (as needed)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of manual machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes and quality control
- Ability to stand, crouch, bend for 8 hour shifts
- Must be able lift up to 40 Lbs on occasion
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to learn and work as a team
- Strong attention to detail
Education and Qualifications
- High school or GED required (Or equivalent)
- Minimum 3+ years' relevant experience as a manual machinis
