    Description

    Job Summary

    This role focuses on enforcing compliance with various by-laws, including zoning, signs, property standards, lottery, and yard maintenance. The successful candidate will investigate, analyze, and interpret these regulations to ensure businesses adhere to the Licensing By-law.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Investigate and enforce compliance related to licensing, signs, lotteries, zoning, property standards, and yard maintenance by-laws.
    • Provide education, clarification, and direction to customers to assist with compliance.
    • Conduct inspections and gather evidence to support enforcement actions.
    • Collaborate with other regulatory agencies and City departments to affect resolutions and clarify policy/procedure.
    • Maintain accurate records of investigations, interviews, and inspections.
    • Prepare and present evidence in court and/or at licensing and property standards tribunals.
    • Follow up on expired licenses and permits to achieve compliance.
    • Advise on by-law amendments and policy/procedural changes.

    Qualifications

    • Prior law enforcement experience or relevant education.
    • Completion of Ontario Property Standards Association Basic Course (Level I) or equivalent within one year.
    • Ability to interpret and apply by-laws and legislation.
    • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and focus on an Open for Business approach.
    • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to work confidently and professionally under stressful situations.
    • Experience working in a computerized environment with Microsoft Office applications.
    • Training in dispute resolution or mediation is an asset.
