The Summer Life Skills Assistant / Job Coach works with youth with an intellectual disability, autism and/or physical disability to enable them to be successful in summer work experiences
The specific responsibilities include:
- Participate with individual in job task training and organizational orientation. Adapt learning strategies suited to the individual and tasks to promote job performance.
Examples:
detailed daily schedule, task breakdown and checklists of steps.
- Assist individual to develop and use life skills needed for job success, for example: communication skills, following a schedule, etc.
- Support individual in virtual social interactions with peers and coworkers.
- Collaborate with Occupational Therapist/Life Skills Coach/Youth Facilitator to carry-out and provide feedback on specific client learning plans and strategies; fade out 1:1 support as appropriate
- Communicate and meet regularly with overseeing Occupational Therapist/Life Skills Coach
- Support group programming (workshops, social group) by facilitating social interactions
- Other assigned duties
Qualifications
- Current student going into final year of high school and/or enrolled in postsecondary education.
- Interest in career in health / social services fields
- Experience working with youth with disabilities
- Experience working in a variety of roles/industries (e.g., hospitality, recreation, administration, etc.)
- First Aid/CPR training
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate
- Experience with navigating online platforms (e.g. Zoom, Google Docs) & comfortable using MS Office

Weeks of work and required availability:
- Must be available to work up to 35 hours/week in July and August with some flexibility for training during June.
- Flexibility to work some weekend/evening shifts if required.
- Flexibility to work onsite at Holland Bloorview, at various workplace locations in the community, and/or virtually is an asset.
