is seeking individuals who are excited about waste diversion We are looking for
Outreach Staff to engage residents on how to sort their: 1) recycling and 2) food and yard waste into blue and green collection carts, respectively.

You will work in teams going door-to-door in different neighborhoods in the City of Calgary to speak with residents about what to put into their blue and green carts.

An orientation session and health and safety training will be provided.

This is a
short-term (temporary) hourly position requiring up to 30 hours of work per week from May 22 to September 1, 2023 for Monday through Friday.

Shifts are approximately 5 to 6 hours each day. These are tentative dates and minor adjustments may occur based on weather conditions.

Outreach Staff will be paid
$19/hr for the work, including training that will take place a week prior to the start date.

This position is on a shift basis depending on each individual's schedule. Preference is given to staff available for more shifts, however special circumstances will be considered.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Engage residents on how to sort their recyclables and organic materials.
Work in teams going doortodoor in different neighborhoods in the City of Calgary to speak with residents about what to put into their blue and green carts.

Qualifications:

Experience in community outreach.
An understanding of an interest in current environmental and waste management issues.
Be able to provide their own transportation to work sites in the City of Calgary.
Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to interact with residents on a regular basis.
Ability to walk for multiple hours and work outdoors in variable weather conditions.
Ability to exercise flexibility, good judgement, and discretion while following safe work practices.

Optional Experience/Qualifications:

Alberta Class 5 driver's license or equivalent.
Knowledge of additional languages is an asset, including Punjabi, Tagalog, Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese.
Experience with waste composition studies and audits, environmental data collection and/or other types of solid waste management work. Experience specific to waste reduction and recycling is an asset.
