ABOUT THE JOB


The Test Technician supports the Product Development work at Next Hydrogen's main facility in Mississauga, ON by assisting with the setting up, monitoring and reporting on various lab, bench, pilot and factory scale testing of our industrial sized hydrogen electrolyzers and balance of plant equipment.


Main Responsibilities

  • Prepare, operate, monitor and maintain water electrolyser module test stands
  • Assemble test electrolyser modules for product development testing, perform peroperation tests and measurements, and install electrolyser modules in test stands
  • Commission and operate according to predetermined test protocols
  • Continuously monitor and regularly report data and trends in the form of test reports and presentations
  • Test stand R&M and modifications
  • Auxiliary equipment R&M and modifications
  • Perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner, carefully following all safety and process procedures

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong mechanical skills
  • High comfort level with computer interfaces
  • Knowledge and experience with electrochemical systems such as electrolysers, fuel cells, or batteries and hydrogen would be an asset
  • Read and follow P&ID
  • Willingness to understand and be attentive to the test stand process individually
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot independently

Familiarity with the following is preferred:

  • Controls and instrumentation, and SCADA systems
  • Relevant workplace safety protocols
  • Handling hazardous chemicals (in liquid and gaseous form)
  • Measuring instruments, hand tools, Swagelok tubing and fittings (multimeters, clampon ammeter)
  • Familiarity with electrical power converters would be an asset


Physical work is involved with the test bay install, set up, start up, shut down, and removal of industrial scale cell stack and electrolyser equipment.

Preference will also be given to those that can work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, overnights and weekends.


Required Qualifications

  • University College Diploma in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or other related disciplines
  • 2+ years of experience with operating, monitoring and maintaining test equipment
  • 2+ years of experience in an industry setting (e.g. manufacturing, industrial equipment setup/installation)
