As part of the Accounting department, this position is responsible for payroll processing support, as well as administration of benefits plans.

Reporting to the Payroll and Benefits Manager, this role requires a high degree of collaboration with Accounting, the Human Resources department, and our shared services benefits provider.

The Payroll & Benefits Coordinator will also be the main point of contact for employees regarding benefits enrolments, changes, terminations, and inquiries.

We are seeking experienced applicants who are detail-oriented and capable of producing high quality, accurate work.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, analytical and Microsoft excel skills are also required.

AREAS OF RESPONSBILITY

Payroll:


  • Enter biweekly payroll into Excel and Payworks for casual employees that work additional hours
  • Perform analysis of additional hours and provide explanation for variances to budget
  • Reconcile Vacation and Statutory Holidays for 90+ employees
  • Provide backup support for Payroll and Benefits Manager during absences
  • Scan and electronically file completed and verified payroll inputs and documentation for clients
  • Assist Payroll Manager with various T4 balancing & Year End processes

Benefits:


  • Process benefits enrolments/changes/terminations and determine eligibility details
  • Communicate benefit activity to HANS and Payroll and Benefits Manager for processing
  • Provide support to employees regarding benefit forms, respond to inquiries, and address any issues
  • Input employee data related to hiring, rate changes, and terminations into internal and external systems
  • Contact employees regarding benefit premiums during leave of absences, provide benefit summaries and calculations, create payment schedule, and monitor receipt of premiums
  • Communicate with employees on leave who are behind on benefit payments, document interactions, and suspend benefits when needed
  • Liaise between Payroll and Human Resources to ensure all attendance, return to work plans, sick time, and vacations of employee are up to date
  • Coordinate with Human Resources on WCB claims, contact employees regarding benefit premiums, and ensure payroll accuracy
  • Review monthly HANS benefit invoices, identify and address discrepancies, and make recommendations for future process improvements
  • Liaise with Accounting to enter employee benefit/pension cheques in SAGE for payment of premiums

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience & Education:


  • 2 years experience processing payroll
  • 2 years experience administering Group Benefits plans (health, dental, life insurance, LTD, AD&D, optional insurance)
  • 2 years experience in customer service


  • Assets:_

  • Completion of Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or CPM certification _not_ required but considered an asset
  • Postsecondary education in Payroll and Benefits, courses in Pension and Benefits, or other related field
  • Experience processing payroll/benefits in a unionized and/or healthcare environment
  • Experience using Payworks

Skills & Abilities:


  • Knowledge of payroll procedures and related legislation
  • Strong technology background in data management (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Detailoriented with accurate data entry skills (numeric and alphanumeric)
  • Able to multitask and manage competing priorities, using sound judgement
  • Collaborative team player with strong communication and relationshipbuilding skills
  • Capable of producing high quality work in fastpaced, deadline driven environment
