Job Summary


Under the direction of the Regional HSEQ Director - Eastern Canada, the HSE Specialist will be responsible for directly ensuring that their assigned Business Unit (BU) implements and maintains all provincial and company mandated HSE programs, through collaborative project management and ongoing training and development.


Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain regional HSE-Management Systems (MS) developed by Ainsworth HSE. Feedback to Regional HSEQ Director regarding status of HSE-MS program activities and opportunities for improvement.
  • Facilitate regional HSE and COR activities, conduct and submit internal COR audit, and complete field HSE Specialist scorecard activities.
  • Support environmental program requirements and regional activities to manage waste, pollution, spills, unplanned releases, and meet environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Perform all job functions in a safe and healthful manner, abiding by and in accordance with all applicable Health, Safety and Environmental company policies and government legislation/regulations
  • Backup for other HSE personnel as directed by the Regional HSEQ Director.
  • Attend toolbox talks, project/service management meetings, and project meetings to provide HSE support.
  • Facilitate regional HSE meeting with operational BU leaders
  • Immediately respond to incident notifications, escalate incident notification to their supervisor, and assist the region with case management during regular business hours and nonbusiness hours.
  • Provide required information for regional specific HSE prequalification activities ensuring they are accurate and timely.
  • Work with regional BU leaders to manage fleet safety through review of driver's risk scorecard and utilize GPS data to assist in incident investigations
  • Coordinate inspection audits of facilities and equipment to identify health and safety hazards and followup with corrective or preventative actions.
  • Monitor regional preventative maintenance programs to ensure that the business units are meeting regulatory requirements for fleet and tools and equipment are meeting minimum guidelines for calibration and testing
  • Maintain records and coordinate investigations of workrelated incidents including: injuries, illnesses, motor vehicle accidents and property damage and make recommendations to reduce or eliminate those instances through corrective and preventative actions
  • Manage worker's compensation claims and return to work programs as well as activities to promote general health and safety issues.
  • Coordinate and monitor environmental control activities in addition to be responsible for waste minimization, recycling, reduction of hazardous chemicals, pollution control, and health/safety/environmental regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of proven working experience in the HSE field within the construction environment, union and nonunion. Established resilience with heavy workload working within tight deadlines.
  • Detailed working knowledge of provincial Occupational Health & Safety Acts and Regulations, WSIB legislation, fire and electrical codes.
  • A recognized postsecondary education in Health and Safety and Environmental field or equivalent experience. CRSP designation or actively engaged in working towards this certification will be considered an asset.
  • Proven facilitation, verbal and written communication skills (English) along with superior interpersonal and organizational skills required to deliver training and coaching to teams and individuals at all levels within the organization.
  • Previous experience with HSE systems that meet COR, and familiar with ISO 9001, ISO 1400 and applicable HSE standards.
