The Just For Laughs Montreal Festival, will present multiple shows over 2 weeks in July running in approximately 15 venues, 1-4 presentations daily.


The team at Just for Laughs is currently looking for a Production/Technical Manager for the 2023 Just for Laughs Montréal Festival.


As
Production/Technical Manager, you will work closely with the Director of Production (Festivals), to ensure the smooth planning, execution and delivery of our annual festival.

You will be responsible for managing and overseeing all production aspects of the events.

The successful applicant will have previous producing experience in comedy, festivals and large-scale events paired with strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and function in time-sensitive and high-pressured situations.

The applicant should be prepared to work long hours.

Responsibilities include the following:


  • Work closely with the Director of Production, Operations department and Producers to assist them with the full demands of the Montreal JFL Festival;
  • Represent and act on behalf of the Director of Production where necessary;
  • Assist in the management of all production and technical elements for all JFL shows and venues;
  • Assist with the hiring and management of technical crews and stage management personnel;
  • Attend and/or work set ups, strikes, rehearsals, and shows, when necessary;
  • Respond to performer's needs to the best of their ability with professionalism and courtesy;
  • Help identify solutions to problems as they arise and implement said solutions with and without direction from the Director of Production;
  • Fill in for production or technical personnel in the case of an emergency;
  • Assist in generating equipment quotes, purchase orders, and technical staff contracts as well as other office duties;
  • Assist with the creation of a general production schedule;
  • Advance all show and artist requirements, and work closely with artists and their representatives;
  • Source and secure various supplies, props, equipment;
  • Create, maintain, and implement schedules and logistics plans for repertory shows in each venue;
  • Attend operations meetings and/or programming meetings as required;
  • Help ensure all equipment is tracked, organized and returned post festival;
  • Submit complete petty cash reports of all expenditures incurred, and be responsible for any petty cash assigned;
  • Responsible for managing budgets and tracking expenses on certain projects; including handling petty cash and submitting reports;
  • Prepare post mortem paperwork detailing all points related to job functions and be available for post mortem meetings as required;
  • 5+ years of experience in large scale events/festival production or technical direction;
  • Experience in stage management, technical installation, or show operation;
  • Experience hiring and managing a team;
  • Experience managing large budgets;
  • Excellent organization skills with an ability to think proactively and prioritize work;
  • Bilingual (English, French);
  • Ability to take initiative and work both independently and as part of a broader organizational team;
  • Ability to thrive in a fastpaced work environment with multiple deadlines;
  • Capacity to work long hours, as needed;
  • Professionalism, maturity, and sensitivity to confidential information;
  • Work in Microsoft suite, experience with Photoshop, Canva, AutoCAD or Vectorworks is an asset;
  • An understanding of the Just For Laughs brand and history;
  • A genuine love of comedy and a passion for growth and creativity

  • Experience in stage management, technical installation, or show operation;
  • Experience hiring and managing a team;
  • Experience managing large budgets;
  • Excellent organization skills with an ability to think proactively and prioritize work;
  • Bilingual (English, French);
  • Ability to take initiative and work both independently and as part of a broader organizational team;
  • Ability to thrive in a fastpaced work environment with multiple deadlines;
