    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. General Maintenance

    The Head Lifeguard assists in the maintenance and cleanliness of the pool, public change rooms, staff change rooms, first aid station and Lifeguard office . They will lead the team of Lifeguards and Swimming Instructors in establishing protocols for pool & pool deck cleanliness and maintenance. The Head Lifeguard maintains a professional appearance and wears the designated uniform while on duty.

    The Head Lifeguard attends team meetings, in-service training sessions and clinics as required . The Head Lifeguard performs other duties as assigned by the Recreation & Leisure Manager.

    1. Health & Safety

    The Head Lifeguard promotes safe swimming habits and behaviors and enforces the pool rules. The Head Lifeguard provides safety education, and performs first-aid throughout the facility as required . The Head Lifeguard initiate emergency response procedures including incident reporting as required .

    The Head Lifeguard ensures that all lifesaving equipment is functional and easily accessible. The Head Lifeguard reports known and potential hazards to the management for immediate action.

    The Head Lifeguard is responsible for conducting admission standard swim testing.

    1. Customer Experience

    The Head Lifeguard receives and responds to feedback from the public and staff and leads the aquatics team in assisting with programming when required . The Head Lifeguard is responsible for assisting with public interaction and education regarding rules, hours and programs, daily and weekly checklists, recording pool test results and bather load numbers and completing instructional administrative tasks. The Head Lifeguard regularly participates in community events.

    1. Supervision

    The Head Lifeguard will be responsible for the delivery of swimming programs and will follow the direction of the Program Coordinator (Recreation & Aquatics They will work with the Supervisor to aid both pool attendees and Lifeguards in understanding and reinforcing safe swimming practices. They may be required to provide assistance to staff when working with pool patrons who require extra assistance or attention. When required, the Head Lifeguard will attending and facilitate training.

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and diplomacy skills .
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills .
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively .
  • Enthusiasm and passion for people with a focus on customer service .
  • Demonstrated creative problem solving and ability to maintain a high level of leadership skills .
  • Must be able to work indoors & outdoors in warm temperatures .
  • Flexible and highly organized with superior conflict resolution skills .
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team .
  • As a condition of employment, must provide a valid and clean Criminal Background Check for working with the Vulnerable Sector .
  • The ability to work weekend and evening schedules is a requirement.
  • Must have current First Aid, CPR and National Lifeguard – Pool certifications, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification is an asset.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Extended periods in a pool may be required at times.
  • The job description implies the performance of repetitive tasks.
