We are looking for a Communities and Social Performance Advisor with strong interpersonal and proven communications skills to contribute to our Aluminium division's CSP team in Northwest, British Columbia.

You will be part of a cross-disciplinary group of colleagues throughout the province in building collaborative and lasting relationships with employees and internal partners.


The role is for a fixed-term duration of 18 months.

Reporting to the Business Partner, employee engagement and internal communication, and working in an interesting and exciting environment within the Health, Safety, Environment and Communities function, you will be:

  • Acting as a key representative of Rio Tinto in developing and enhancing its employee engagement and storytelling
  • Strengthening employee engagement
  • Support communication, video, written communication, and social media to share information on Rio Tinto's BC works operation
  • Representing Rio Tinto during employee engagement meetings or special events, which may be occur outside of regular working hours or days.
  • Develop and maintain favourable relationships and strong engagement with the local community and internal stakeholders
  • Ensure activities are aligned to maintaining compliance with commitments, and company policy and standards relating to Communities and Social Performance
  • Engages with internal Business stakeholders to lead and promote the principles of effective employee engagement; the importance of establishing and maintaining social license to operate; and preservation of cultural and environmental values

  • Postsecondary education
  • Highly motivated and strong people engagement skills empathetic and excellent listening skills
  • Experience working independently and as part of a team, exercising sound judgment, and managing multiple ongoing projects while meeting critical deadlines is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience working with stakeholders and involved in community engagement programs
  • Demonstrated competencies in problem solving of complex matters, from identification of objectives and determine the process to achieve desirable outcomes.
  • Experience working with a broad range of audiences including First Nations, local businesses, and the public
- to achieve successful, mutually desired outcomes.
