***Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Vocational Coach strives to create a welcoming, accessible, informative, inclusive, and culturally appropriate environment that supports and assists individuals to prepare for, secure, and maintain sustainable employment.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work as a Facilitator to deliver the Redpath program and life skills coaching to those experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness in a welcoming way. Program content includes mental health and addictions support and services, life skills, professional skills, Skills for Success, job search skills, career planning, short term certificate training, supported job search, on the job training, and job placement.

Duties include:
- create a safe, welcoming, and calming environment for Participants.
- facilitating the Redpath counselling program.
- provide one on one support to Participants, referring to varies resources including detox, counselling services, and housing providers.
- meet Participants where they are at in their recovery journey using a harm reduction approach.
- provide one on one emotional support for Participants through their recovery journey.
- assist participants in establishing goals and increasing their skill level.
- marketing program for participant referrals.
- delivering group-based workshops.
- maintain positive working relationships and referral processes with partner organizations.
- reporting requirements as per contract.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in related field is an asset.
  • Experience working with the homeless is preferred.
  • Certified in the Redpath Facilitation Course or willing to complete certification.
  • Strong understanding of mental health and addictions
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training and First Aid Certification
  • Working knowledge of local recovery meetings and counselling resources
  • Combination of education and experience

  • Ability to function independently and frequently under pressure, while managing multiple concurrent projects and deadlines including participating in resolving and effectively managing stressful situations.

  • Able to adapt productively to changes in workflow and operational priorities in the work environment.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team with capacity to take initiative and calmly handle changing circumstances.
  • Highly proficient with computers, equipment and technology used to support participants in their job search; MS Office programs, webbased assessment tools, social media platforms, webbased research tools, and webbased learning platforms.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills, ability to manage difficult situations and respond effectively to participant complaints and participants in crisis.
  • Demonstrates excellent organization and timemanagement skills.

Additional requirements

  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Must consent to a Criminal Record Check.
  • Travel may be required, across the Northeast Region of BC.

Wage:
$25/hour


Position Type:
Part time/full time, 20-40 hours / week

This position is dependent on continued program funding.
